When we think of something we are using our own experiences, and our own visuals to conquer up an image for that word.  Many times misunderstandings can occur if two people have a different visual (definition) of something.  Take the State of California, what do you think of, what picture is in your mind when you hear someone say they live in California?  Our own experiences are what we use to see the world, and to communicate with each other.  But often times your world isn't someone else's world, so try to find out where they're coming from first, then communication can occur.

Hi Tom, no they are artichokes. This is one of my favorite summer meals :)  I just added a bigger pic of the field so you can see it better :)

My goodness.  I don't believe that I've ever seen a field of artichokes.  Where's the dip?

Magnificent.

Kathy - You are doing a marvelous job capturing and expressing. The same thing is true about when I'm being asked about the living in Florida, which brings me back to when I was not even thinking about living in the USA. Florida, sun....beaches....and Disney World.

Those are beautiful fields. I did not even know that they were artichokes at first.

Artichoke "thithels" are the most lovely flower.  We have other thistles blooming along our roads right now... just stunning, till you realize they are weeds (the ones by our roads).

Hey Kathy! I love artichokes - and growing up in California- where I've seen these fields - I knew exactly what they were. Their flowers remind me of the thistle.

Hi Lenn- Boy my mouth waters even looking at this many artichokes. Do you like yours with mayonnaise or hot butter, we'll have a party :)

Petra-Hello, yes many people think similar things with CA and FLorida, and we each have our own Disneyland or Disney World.  Sometimes I wonder if leaving people with their preconceived ideas isn''t better than reality :)

John- thank you very much :)

Gail- Thanks...I had been taking pictures mostly of the ones that flowered, then saw these fields across the street :)

Sally-I often wondered why some of the most beautiful gifts of nature are called "weeds" :)  But that's OK, cuz even though we don't take care of them, or nurture them in anyway, they come back year after year for our enjoyment :)

Debi-I love the flower part, it's beautiful :)  I remember the first time I saw the artichoke fields was over by Watsonville....loved it, and all the little roadside stands with the newly harvested artichokes,, yum :)

Is this the artichoke capital of the world?! It's beautiful! And I almost forgot I like artichokes...I don't see them eoften around here. Your post is a beautiful illustration of artichokes and the wisdom of deep listening. Very nice, Kathy. Hope you have a picture-perfect weekend!

On one of my visits to California, I remember going through a small town famous for their artichokes. Don't remember the name, but there was a BIG artichoke on display.

Mara- Hi friend...no I think Castorville is, or was, although as you can see there sure are alot of them grown here.  Hope everything is good for you, and next time you come for a visit come in season, and we'll share an artichoke while we talk :)

Hi Ann- Thanks...

Rebecca- That might have been Watsonville or Castorville....I remember going there in the 70's.

Kathy- Artichokes are one of my favorite foods.  Never knew what they looked like growing.  Beautiful pictures and such true commentary as well.
