SC Point of Sale Assessment Tax Rally

By
Real Estate Agent with EXIT Realty of Beaufort

According to the Beaufort Gazette about 150 SC realtors, including Beaufort SC realtors, rallied at the Statehouse in Columbia SC to make a last gasp effort to save a bill that would limit point-of-sale assessments.Under current law when a home is sold it is taxed at the sale price, the realtors want to cap that at 15%. They say the current tax is hurting an already soft real eatate market.

Before the point-of-sale rule values only change every 5 years after a countywide reassessmant. The point-of-sale law has been in effect since 2006.
