Spring is in full swing and summer is right around the corner. That means the gardening season is here. Here are a few tops picks for perennials that will add color to your yard. Have fun in the garden!

DayLily:  6-8 hours of full sun. Lots of water.

Iris: Full sun. Good to divide and spread out in garden every 3-5 years.

Peony: Full Sun, flower only lasts about a week. Plant a few different varieties to keep them blooming.

I have tons of peonies in my garden- the best thing is that they appeared naturally (a bird must have helped spread them to my garden) and they have really taken off and they smell great.

With our drought situation throughout Southern California, I hate to see you recommend anything that needs "lots of water." Fortunately, though, the day lily actually doesn't need lots of water. They grow just fine, and bloom just fine, on our average ten inches of rain each year, needing very little additional watering, just in times of extreme heat or hot, dry Santa Ana winds.

The iris actually needs much more water than the day lily.
