One of the things that we all want for our sites (some might not know this yet... but they still want it) is link love.  We want those high ranking sites to link back to us and pass some page rank to our blogs and websites.  David Gibbons on the Bull

At the same time, many of us are leaving some SERIOUSLY hot and sexy links standing at the bar with a drink in their hand...  They want to give us some lovin', but we aren't responding...

Now, as David Gibbons (he's the Zillow Dude...) reminded me last weekend, if you participate in social networks your profile will get linked back more... and then the Page Rank for that profile will go up!  I have a plethora of profiles and many of them have PR2 or PR3 going for them.

Another great opportunity for link-backs are property websites.  Of course you would send a link back from your property websites back to your own site or blog... but what about the free links you can send to your property website?  If you do a property video, most of the sites that you would post it to allow a link...  You might be able to send a dozen or more good links to your property website from those videos...  And some of that Page Rank will carry through.  and of course the property site itself will rank higher.

I have spent the last few days tweaking profiles and tuning links for social networking sites.  Active|Rain, LinkedIn, FaceBook and more... and there are more left to do.

Hi Lane,

Thanks for your post.  I'm just starting to learn all this SEO lingo, but my hair still hurts trying to understand what the heck you just said above.  Ack!!  I'm looking forward to the day I don't feel like such a moron about these things.

Could you please tell me what you mean by PR2 and PR3?  I've seen these terms bandied about on other posts as well and 1) I don't know what the heck they mean and 2) even if I did know what they meant, I have no clue how to find out my PR ratings!

Any insights you can share would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.....and have a great day!

Coleen - PR is Google Page Rank.  Higher is better.  Most sites are one or two.  Each level is ten times better than the one below it... PR5 is 10x as powerful as a PR4.

Are you using FireFox as a browser?  If not, you need to be.  There are several plug-ins that you need to use, the first is called NoDoFollow and the second is SearchStatus.  NoDoFollow will show you which sites are letting Google follow your linkbacks, and SearchStatus will let you see the PR of any site you visit.

For instance, Google doesn't see any link that you write in a comment, but it does see the link to your A|R profile on comments.  Google also sees any links you put in your own posts...

There are a lot of good posts here on SEO 101...  I should probably write a couple myself...  ;^ )

Lane,

For instance, Google doesn't see any link that you write in a comment, but it does see the link to your A|R profile on comments.

Over the past few weeks I've been trying to figure out what makes some member's profile pages have higher page rank than others.  The one thing that seems to correlate the best is the amount of commenting that they do.   I always thought that links in comments were "no follow" but as you point out, the links back to your profile page on every comment that you make are in fact followed and seem to transfer some page rank.

So if you want to milk the most Google Juice towards your profile page, one might really go for a high quantity of comments.  Forget about the points being limited  to ten comments per day.  The Google Juice is what you are after and that flows for an unlimited amount of comments per day.

Lane and Tim, you both make some very valid points...  no pun intended.  I've not watched the PR of my profile here in the rain - I best start.  Ok - off I go to comment away!

P.S. I just checked my PR and found our profile page here in AR has a 2 but my home page has a 3 and our blog page isn't even ranked :(  interesting...

'Tis an interesting post. I had picked up on some of the commenting link stuff, do use Firefox but didn't know about the plug-ins.  Thanks!

Lane - Gotta love that free love and that link love !!!!  Is addicting per se : ) .  Great reminder for one to have their sites link up with each other.  Is also great to share some link love with your friends and colleagues.  I just tweeted this blog post : )   ~ Chris

Tim - David was talking about agents getting their Zillow profiles up to PR4... and then linking back to their sites.  The same strategy works here.

L & P - Commenting is important, both here and elsewhere.  There are a lot of blogs that don't put nofollows on their commentors.

Terry - Don't get me started...

Lisa - Seems like a second job...

Judi - The plug-ins are why FireFox rocks so much!

C & S - One way links are the best... And thanks for tweeting me.

Just when I think I have a few important points lined up in my head, I read your post.  OMG, will it never end?  I really don't understand exactly what you said.  So, is there another place I can go and read a more indepth (that's code for "For Beginners") explanation of your linking ideas?

Sandra - Honestly, I bet there is a place, but I don't know where...  This was a result of several conversations...  But, in effect, you can get links back to your site by posting videos and linking the video back to your site.
