How Much Traffic are Your Images Generating? Image Analytics! Wait did you just say generate traffic with images?!!

I don’t think many people realize the potential that images have for websites. Not only are images probably one of the most important things you can do to a website or blog to make it look more interesting (Aside from video perhaps) they can also get you traffic. An indirect method is to post them to different photography sharing sites such as Flickr or PhotoBucket but also to post the images to every other site you can think of. You can social network images as well by posting them to Facebook and places like that. To help you imagine what I mean think of it like image syndication. It’s the same as putting your blog in as many places as you can (blog syndication) by sending it to Twitter and Facebook etc and blogging on more than one platform but you do it for images. It’s probably something that you had not considered but the potential is amazing.

Not only can you generate traffic with images you can see how much traffic you are getting.

Take a look at the stats below and think about this for a moment.

I have had over 1000 people check out my profiles on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn and also have seen that I am an e-Pro. I don’t care so much about the last one but just think about the first few. Not only am I effectively leveraging my social networks with my blogging activities (these images are at the bottom of my blogs in my signature) I can directly assess how much traffic is going there.

Here are some ideas to think about:

• Put images everywhere. People like to look at neat stuff. Take some cool pictures and post them on all your profiles.
• Social network with images. I hope I explained this clearly enough above.
• Use images as effective content. Put them in blog posts and have the image link to your website. However you want to do this its effective.

If you don’t think its effective take a look at the numbers for a second. That’s 200+ views on some of those images in a single day! That’s like 20X the normal traffic to my website in a single day. Heck the number of views on each of those images is more traffic than my site gets in a month! The top 5 images have over 5000 clicks and that’s just weekly totals. Take a look at monthly totals! Holy crap I had no clue so many people were clicking on the images in my blogs. 16,000 views?!!

If you use Google analytics you can’t see who is clicking on what in your site. Well you sort of can but it definitely is not as in depth as this. I am seriously considering swapping out all my images with PhotoBucket hosted images so I can see who clicks on what on my site. I think it’s as important to see image analytics as anything else and from the numbers I see here more people are clicking on my images than I could ever have imagined!
