10 Comments on YouTube – 20 Hours of Video Uploaded Every Single Minute!
I recently read a list of the top 10 tech failures of all time. One of the items on the list was Youtube, which shocked me. Apparantly, it was or is considered a failure for its inability to capitalize or monetize its video hosting. Who knows.
It might be argued that if not for youtube, video wouldnt be that popular. You might also argue that the internet wouldnt be as popular and also that without youtube bandwith would never have evolved because prior to video being popularized there was no need for high speed internet!
Gee Youtube sucks. :)
Have 300 vidoes uploaded and purring along racking up views on real estate and local community videos. Anyone that says they don't work, not worth the time, etc is not doing video. They said the thing about talking pictures when the silent black and whites with the piano player down front and sub titles were big in the 20's! Good post Shane. Did you ever get the Flickr deal squared away?
Nope. They permanently deleted my account without even a moments hesitation or even a chance to fix what was wrong. I know I broke a rule but 99% of my images were just fine. All they would have had to do was send me a note as to which ones to fix. I found it happened to hundreds of other people.
Things like youtube and Craigs list are so big with my younger clients. They are all over those sites.
I'm a big fan of Craigslist but need to do more on Youtube.
Interestingly enough, the average internet user watches about 6 hours of online video each month with each having an average of 3 minutes in length. So that's a lot of videos people watch. But the important thing to note here is how videos are found. Videos that get alot of views are ones that do the work to direct people to them through email links and whatnot. In terms of Youtube, it's a place to be but I don't put a lot of focus on it because people are not shopping for real estate on YouTube. Plus the player has pop ups at the end of recommended videos which might not match up with your business or may be a competitor.
What really bothers me about YouTube in our business are the toru companies misleading Realtors with the "I'll get you on YouTube" ads. It's a free service, I can get myself on YouTube. Why should I pay a company $100 to upload photos I took so they can rap them into a slideshow that can be done for free with MovieMaker and they post it to their account? Here's why. YouTube offers a 'Partner Program' which once you upload enough, you get a banner page and share in the ad revenue that displays when a video is watched. So you are paying them so they can get another revenue source. Here's what those tour companies need to provide . . . the video file so you can upload yourself to YouTube and where ever else you want to. You're paying for it and you should get the finished product to use it where you want.
