Professionals everyday are missing the big three and it could definitely cost you business.....To read more.....Sphere of Influence.....   The Big Three....The Beat Goes on...Part I

I personally do not enjoy name tags, I was a grocery store manager in my past, imagine checking 50 associates for name tags every day!  That was part of my job for 5 very long years.

In retail, name tags are as important as wearing shoes!

After leaving retail I attempted to be rebellious:  "I AM NOT WEARING A NAME TAG!  NEVER AGAIN!"  I threw it away....Celebrating my departure from retail.

Our business is not that different.  It took me some time to realize that, I fought it!  I had a name plate at my desk? Why?  Was the public going to see that?

I was testing my Freedom....I'm a Realtor....I can do what I want!

If we spend thousands getting our name out there in front of the public........ websites, ads, blogs, well what about  a name tag?  Such a small investment with so much value.  Oh, brother, what the heck was I thinking?..Because of my mindset I know I missed some golden opportunities......Yes, it was not long before I bought a name tag.

My name is unique, I would have to repeat my name about 3 times with the customer, spell it for them and let them know Midori is a common Japanese name and it means green.  Then I would point at my name tag.

One of my famous lines is “Once you learn my name you will never forget it.”  That’s why I wore a name tag, so they would never forget my name.

I have noticed at least for me, when I wear mine, often times a real estate conversation will start.  It usually ends with a smile, nice conversation, a card in their hand and sometimes.......a phone number in mine!

Ever been out in public for someone to notice you because you farm their neighborhood and they want to say something to you but they are not positive it's you?  Then all of a sudden they walk up and introduce themselves and tell you I wasn't sure if that was you until I read your name tag.  It has happened to me!

I don't know about you but I tend to dress nicer, stand taller and have my real estate aura on!   That's my final adjustment, my final cue, I am on and it's showtime!  My name in lights!  My walking billboard.

What about the professionalism issue we fight everyday!  If name tags were part of our dress code, agents might be a little more careful in what they say, how they dress and actions they take.

The public takes a name tag as official, I do!  It makes it more real!  Better listen... You are a Realtor, your billboard says so!

Can you really afford a missed real estate conversation or lost opportunity! Why fight it!  Don't be rebellious...It's show time!  Improve our public image and break down and buy yourself a name tag.

I absolutely hate wearing a name tag.  I have made some up, because past experience has demonstrated the advantages, over and over.  Name tags are for the benefit of the consumer, and you are so right- there is definitely more of a comfort level from potential clients when they say your name aloud without worryng if they have it "right".  Great post!

Midori, this is an excellent reminder.  So much so that I just looked into getting mine, finally!  I knew all along I should have been wearing one and just never got around to getting it.  Thank you!  I'll never know if I missed out on opportunities because I wasn't wearing one.

Laurie-Thanks for stopping by.  At least the name tags now are magnetic!  I always felt bad because my name was so hard to pronounce.  But it was a huge benefit also!  Thank you for comment, I really appreciate it.

Maggie-Ahhhh, good I am glad, everyone needs to know your name!  I say let's not think about missed opportunities and lets keep making new ones!  Thank you for stopping by Maggie.

I have avoided wearing a name tag probably for many of the same reasons as you did, but what you said is so obvious that I feel like an idiot for not wearing mine.  Thanks for the wake up call.

Yup...mine goes on when showing property, meeting a client, going into the office....and I "forget" to take it off when going in to the grocery store, shopping center and all that....and like a dummy when a clerk thanks "Celeste" I wonder how they knew my name hahahahaha!

Richard-Yes, my rebellion has hurt me more than once!  Even my boys are a little rebellious!  Sometimes us stubborn people have to learn by hard knocks.....but you know what, we do, eventually learn!  Thank you for taking time to comment

Sally-Well that is the best part when you forget to take it off!  I have had some great conversations with people because of my name tag!  A girl at my bank is interested in selling!  She knew I was in real estate simply from my name tag!

I have also asked someone if they were mind readers because I left my name tag on!  I love it though!  It gives us something to laugh about and we have created a memory!  Hopefully the memory will be that they like me and remember I do sell real estate.  Thanks for stopping by

Are nametags effective?  Just ask Scott Ginsburg (That Nametag Guy)Scott is the only person in the world who wears a nametag 24-7 to make people friendlier. (In case you’re wondering, he has a nametag tattooed on his chest for certain occasions.) While transforming his simple idea into a business, his adventures have earned him recognition as “The World’s Foremost Expert on Nametags” and secured a spot in Ripley’s Believe it Or Not!

If you want total strangers to walk up and start a conversation, just put on a nametag.

Midori, agree 100%, nametags are the best way to advertise yourself, and one of the least expensive too!

John-Wow, that was interesting... you are right!  Name tags seem to start conversations.  I believe in them, I don't always like them but they have proved over and over to be an important part of our business.  Thanks for you comments.

Joan-You can always have one made through on of the companies online.  They can create them the way you specify!  I would do that if our name tags were not attractive.  Thank you for you imput and for stopping by

Midori,

I have a draw full of them ...you want? I stopped wearing them for a few reasons... first they do not sit on my shirt straight so no one sees my name ..anyway the other it every-time I weigh myself..I have to take it off because it adds 5 lbs! And finally my fan club follows me around and when they see my tag they ask me for autographs...I would rather have the money! LOL! Nothing wrong with wearing them..I feel like I'm wearing a nipple ring!

Neal-Ahhhhhhh, I get it!!  You've hit celebrity status.....hmmmmmmmmm. I think we can all use many more fans!  There are many designs out there that would make you look GOOD!  All I can tell you, because I had it on at the bank, an associate when on a listing appointment because of it!  Can't credit Activerain or my website, it was simply my name tag.

Love this post!

As someone who started working for the "man" at age 13... I know all too well what you were talking about.  I have worn coutless aprons, hats, badges, pins, hair nets, uniforms and yes, name tags. All of which I wanted to burn when I made my grand exit to stage left.

But you know... for all of the reasons I hated it, it all makes sense now!

Haven't gotten there yet, but I know that nametags (like pictures on cards) are helpful in recognition and conversion.
From what I have heard I would encourage agents to wear nametags, however I have not mustered up the courage yet...

Hi Julie-Thanks for stopping by.  Now I kick myself when I forget to wear my nametag!  I do dislike them but I know and value the importance of them in our business!

Marina-It's ok....it does take courage but they are soooooo useful in our business.  I usually have at least one encounter a day in regards to real estate conversations that lead from my name tag!  Having a unique name seems to draw attention to myself and what I do for a living.  Thank you for taking time to comment and get the guts and wear a nametag.  I think you will be happy you did!

Here again I get reminded about putting on my name tag.   This is good advice. I need to take it out of my car console and put it on.

Theron-I need constant reminding as I seem to have my name tags everywhere except where I need them.  I have gotten better.....yes put it on, someone else may be having that real estate conversation that you should be having with the same person.  Thank you for stopping by.
