I have to admit, I have a twitter account...but I really don't "get" twitter.  I am not sure how to get involved in this whole new movement.  I am the first to admit when I don't know something and this is something I really don't know much about but lucky for me, there are lots of people who do know how to go about tweeting!  I happen to follow a tweeter named @EmailCopywriterand just by pure chance checked in on my tweetberry when he posted a link to an article about getting started with twitter!  This sounded like just what I needed!  So I went to the article and read it, it even included pictures (for a visual learner like me...that was the best part!)  The tile of the article is Top 10 Twitter Tips for Beginners and below is a summary of the tips in the article!

1. Shrink Your URLs

2. RT = Retweet

3. Direct Messaging

4. Use the @ Sign

5. Search For Your Friends

6. Categorize Your Tweets for Added Visibility (this one was completely new to me)

7. Share Pictures

8. Tweet from Your Phone

9. Pick a Good Desktop Client

10. Download a Mobile Client

You really must go to the article and read the details for each tip as well as take a look at the pictures!  So far, this is the simplest explanation I have found on getting started with Twitter!  Hope it helps you like it helped me!

Someone said to me that twitter is kind of like the Macarena dance.  It is kind of the "hip" thing to do

Kelli - You are welcome!  I am still trying to figure the whole twitter thing out myself!

David - Great analogy and probably so true, by the time I figure it out...I am sure there will be something bigger and better! :)

Love the macarena comment.  That is so true.  Twitter is contagious like bird flu or Y2K but I really dont think that it will have a lasting presence.  It is sort of fun, but not that sticky to me.

I was really not getting this myself, but after using it for a bit have found it's an interesting way to quickly get a message out to a large group at one time.  The linking back to other things such as properties for sale, news storeis, etc. is Great.

Hi Jeanna and friends,

I enjoyed your post. I've actually written two of my own about how real estate proffesionals can use twitter can find both local buyers/sellers and people moving to their area. I hope this helps a fellow Texan (and everyone else)!

Finding Local Buyers, Sellers, and Renters Using Twitter

Real Estate Twitter Search - who's moving to your neighborhood?

Also, it is indeed hard to tell where Twitter will go, but why not take advantage of the medium while it is employed by so many? I'm more frightened of becoming a luddite than I am of new technology...
