There are differences in real estate agents and that will make a difference for you.  Some are Realtors® and some are not.  The difference is the Code of Ethics that Realtors® pledge to abide by.  They are also members of the National Association of Realtors® and members of the State Association of Realtors and the local Board of Realtors®.

Why is this important to you?                                                 Realtor® Logo

(1.) It means these people work with other Realtors and (2.) continue to learn (continuing education and constant daily learning tools from the associations to better serve their clients and customers.  (3.) The Code of Ethics speaks for itself.

(4.) Realtors® also work to help protect Private Property Rights.  That's right.  Realtors® keep up with potential laws and bills about to be passed and try to influence our Congressmen and Senators to vote in a way to protect your property rights.  Did you know this?  They spend their own money to protect you.  They spend time away from their families and jobs to protect you.  An example of this is in Texas this year over 4,000 bills were proposed and about 800 dealt with real property.  Aren't you glad someone is reading these bills?  Your Realtor® friends are.

Most of the realtors I know believe it is a right and a privelege to own land and your own home.  We enjoy helping people increase their wealth and the stability of their families by owning real property.  It is a privelege for us to go to work and become part of someone's life, helping an individual or family attain their dreams of home ownership.

Realtors® are here to help you.                   Don't be afraid to let us.

It will usually save you money to use a Realtor®.

For the cost of a few dollars, I don't really understand why every agent doesn't belong to the NAR.

Hi Melissa,   Thank you for your comments.  There are many benefits available to us when we belong to the associations.  Real estate is about relationships we build.

Hi Richard,  You are so right.  Belonging to NAR brings many benefits and getting involved in the State and local associations also is very important for our growth as industry professionals and for the benefit of our clients and customers.

Ricki, I appreciate your true believerism, and yes I think it is important to have written standards. When I was in high school I was on the debate team. One definition that was very important in the topic was defining should which means ought to but not necessarily will. I am a certified real estate teacher in my state, and getting some folks to really delve into the meaning of the Code of Ethics versus just taking it to meet minimum standards is not easy. getting realtors who need more than just the minimum hours to keep their license is also a problem. What I am hoping for is that the current housing crisis will force a crossroads moment for many to upgrade skills, and to understand what the Code of ethics is saying. At AR you are preaching to the choir and I am in the amen corner.

We Realtors aren't thought of in a bright light unfortunately. I'm very professional at my job and  do a good job for my clients. I do think lots of people down play what we do for them. Sad to say.

Thank you Joe for your comments.  I agree Realtors need to take their position more seriously and get the education and training they need to do a good job not just to meet the minimum hours to keep their license.  They also need to "apply" the Code of Ethics into their business.  The benefits we have are there if we use them.

Hi Patricia,   You are right, unfortunately.  Many times people do not see us in a good light.  When we educate them about our services and really help them, it changes their impressions.  I had a recent seller that had bad experiences in the past and was able to turn his thinking around.  He now is sending letters out into the community telling his friends to use me. :)  That is sweet!

Hi Gary,   Most people do not know what we do and we need to tell them.  After all, TREPAC is the largest in the nation.

Thanks Anna,  We are a great bunch!!!! The publlic needs to know it.

I am glad to see this post. Our state and local associations do so much work on behalf of the American people protecting their property rights. It goes unnoticed and unappreciated. I believe that most Realtors are unaware this function of the NAR and I am sure that consumers are blind to it.  Thanks for calling attention to this important issue.

Hey Ricki,

Thanks for the great post.  Realtors protect property rights all over the country.  RPAC is more important than ever. Realtors need to invest in themselves, their business and support their PAC so all Realtors can keep in front of our Congressman, Senators and their General Assembly. We do protect all that who is buying land and their rights.  I have followed the great State of Texas and a few other States that are moving away to be a Sovreign State.  Your State does a great job for the people.

The general public does not know what we do To Protect Property Rights.  If Realtors were to go away were would the public, the citizens of all states be?

Happy Memorial Day!  And a very big thank you to all the members that are are Vets, who have given us our freedom to speak out and keeping all who reside in America safe!

There's no place like HOME!!!!

Private property rights are very important to the foundation and freedom of this country.  Expanding home ownership in a secure model (not like it just happened) is a goal to help insure freedom and prosperity.

Hi Rick,   It is shame to think that many Realtors do not know how we work in this area.  They need to get involved and the public needs to be educated about our roles in this important function we provide for all.

Hi Kathleen,   Thank you for your comments.  We do provide a valuable service that many do not know about.  Thank you to all our veterans!  Thanks for reminding us at this time too, for all the precious ways they have given and helped us keep our freedoms.

Hi Gene,   You are so right.  Private Property Rights and homeownership go hand in hand with freedom and prosperity.  May 2009 be a great year for all these things.

In our area we try and educate homeowners against what we call a 'transfer tax' here. It's also basically a rip-off 'exit tax'.  When you sell your home, before you close you pay the village $1 or $3 per thousand of the sales price.  Most people don't know about this until they SELL their home obviously and there is nothing they can do at that point.  We've tried to fight increases in this tax which the public just doesn't understand and have kept most increases at bay.

Good post.

Hi Lyn,  I am so glad you brought this up.  We have been fighting a transfer tax here this year.  We don't want it in Texas.  We are already taxed beyond belief.

Tons of postive comments.  Can I be the one negative one?  Do we get value for the dues we pay?  Is Realtor.com worth it?

Hi Andrea,   Now is the time we can be of real service to our clients.  I am sure they need more advice now not less with all the changes that take place daily in our economy.  Being a guiding hand that is calm in the midst of a storm is what they need for us to be.  Thanks for commenting.

Hi Mike,   Good questions.  If I paid my dues just for Realtor.com, I might have a question too.  That is only one benefit of being a Realtor.  There are so many more.  Your association with other Realtors, the educational benefits, Realtor.org, NAR, TAR for me, the conventions, the PACs, and on and on it goes.  Get involved and you will find the value of paying your dues.  It will come back to you many times over.
