If you have accumulated a lot of stuff over the years , you may not know where to begin.

Depending on your energy level, age and your job it may take a few days or weeks.

Here are some tips.:

1. Call a charity and see when they pick up in your area. This will force you to get things ready for pick up on the scheduled date.

2. You can take things to the local Goodwill or other places in your community where they have collection bins.

3. You can register on Freecycle or Craigs list and give them away for free.

4. You can have a Garage sale.

5. Place a classified ad in newspaper and advertise on craigslist as a ''for sale'  item..

6.Call you Family and Friends and se if they could use any of the stuff you do not need.

Gita,
I think perhaps many time we don't "see" our own  clutter.  Good tips.

Those are great, Gita.  Lots of times I think people see the clutter and just don't know what to do with it, like you said.  Instead of thinking "where can I put this?" they should be thinking "how can I get rid of this?"

Gita, good list for home sellers.  And for heaven's sake, PLEASE do not just throw it all in the garage.... get it OFF the property!  Remember that buyers will be looking in the garage too.

Clutter? Surely we don't have clutter in our homes, do we? As a home inspector, I call it "excessive furnishings and storage." LOL

Gita, I am not putting my home on the market but it was time to declutter....I donated everything and for the larger pieces put a "curb alert" on Craigslist..........every single thing was gone so fast and I'm glad to see people can use all these items.  Great ideas you wrote about.
