YOUR CREDIT

By
Mortgage and Lending with Equity Plus, Inc.

Do you believe most people don't know what is on their credit report? It is very easy to find out. Go to:

https://www.annualcreditreport.com/cra/index.jsp

On this site, you can look at all 3 of your credit reports, free, once a year! You have to pay a small fee to get your actual scores, but the whole idea is to see if there is something on there you don't recognize. Also, you can use that info. to see what you need to work on. Another great site is:

http://www.freecreditreport.com/

On this site, you can pay $12.95 a month and view your credit report whenever you want. This site also gives you a score. You can get on everyday and click on "view my full report" and get an updated report daily. This does not show as a credit pull on your report because it's you, the consumer, looking at it.

*Speaking of which, if you are planning on getting a mortgage in the next year, do not apply for a lot of new credit. Multiple pulls of your credit lowers your score.*

Too many people pay too little attention to their credit until the moment they want to buy something and then most times it is too late.  I counsel all of my clients to stay on top of their credit so that it doesn't come back to bite them in the end.

You can never be too attentive to your credit profile.

Awareness is key and Education is the stimulus for that.  We, as professionals in the industry, have the duty to explain the in's and out's of credit and the rewards/repercussions of it honestly and to the best of our ability.  I also feel our educational system from high school on forward needs to step up to the plate.

It's truely amazing how many people do not know what their credit looks like!

They teach History, Geometry, and Geology in high school.....but not credit?!  How often do you use that Trig that you took in high school??? Credit is a necessary part of everyone's every day life! There should be more people around to teach it!!

I agree Kris! Managing your finances is something EVERYONE will use eventually. There should be mandatory classes on managing finances, saving, credit, etc. in high school, just that step would make a big difference in our economy and bankruptcy filings!

Most people I run into have no idea what is on their credit report. That is scary in this day and age.
