Highway to Heaven - Don't Pass this Up!

Beartooth Highway Pass

The Beartooth Highway Pass also known at the All-American Road and the Beartooth Scenic Byway is open!

May 22 was the first day in 2009 it was opened and on Saturday, May 23, an opening celebration will take place at the Custer NAtional Forest Service Office, just South of Red Lodge.

Hop in a car, a bike or a motorcycle for a scenic drive!

From Red Lodge, you should not miss the opportunity to drive the Beartooth Scenic Byway.

Beartooth Highway Pass

The Beartooth Highway has been described by former CBS correspondent Charles Kuralt as 'the most beautiful drive in America'.  This scenic drive is 54 miles long and takes about 3 hours to complete because your are zigzagging on the mountains and climbing to an altitude of nearly 11,000 feet.  But, if you are like most people, you don't care about it takes because your mind and eyes are concentrating on the heavenly views throughout the drive of snow capped peaks, glaciers, alpine lakes and plateaus.

The Beartooths are one of the highest elevation and most rugged areas in the lower 48 states, with 20 peaks over 12,000 feet in elevation.

You may spot wildlife such as the marmots, moose, Rocky Mountain goat, moose, black bear, grizzly bear and mule deer.

I can't wait to go back on the Beartooth Highway Pass this weekend on my upcoming trip to Yellowstone National Park.  The northeast entrance to Yellowstone Park is only 69 miles away from Red Lodge via the Beartooth Pass.  It's Good to Be Here!!

Gerry, it looks gorgeous. Something I hope I can do.

All the same, I am partial to the Big Sur Coast.

One of my favorite places.  My daughter used to live near Cody and we've been across the BT several times.

Andrew,

It is gorgeous indeed.  You have to see it in person to realize how much.

Maria,

Thanks.  Our motto in our office is "It's Not a Dream...It's Our Reality!"   I will definitively enjoy my next ride through the Beartooths.

Michael,

You should come visit.  I currently have a friend from Nashville, Tennesse who is visiting for the first time and we will be heading to the mountains and the Beartooth Pass together.   Biking in the Beartooth mountains is breathtaking!

Paul & Diane,

I am sure you enjoyed all the amazing scenery during your drives on the Beartooth Highway Pass.   Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Debra,

Gotta love Montana indeed (so much to see and do).   Thanks for visiting and commenting.

Hi Gerry - Beartooth sounds like a great ride -- I would like someone else to drive so I could just enjoy the gorgeous scenery!  Enjoy your trip to the Yellowstone -- I'm sure you agree,  one of the best National Parks ever!

Mary,

Having someone else drive or sharing the driving is a good idea.  Also keep in mind that there are plenty of stop areas along the way so thar everyone can truly enjoy the gorgeous scenery.  My favorite one is called Vista Point where you can admire an unobstructed and 180 degree view of the mountains.

Michael,

First for all thank you for your service with the Navy and for your country.

I would be happy to email you info about some nice areas within a 40 minute commute of Billings along with info on the school systems in those towns.  However, I don't have your email and you did not provide it.  If you be kind enough to contact me by phone or email (my contact info is on the top right hand corner of the page, there is a hyperlink to email me), I would be happy to assist you.   I will keep my fingers crossed for your new job in Billings.
