Me1Here on Active Rain, our beloved Real Estate social networking site I do believe the endless MeMe's are dying down. You know those little insider posts written to find out more scoop from your favorite bloggers. But there is a time

When A MeMe Is Not A Good Thing.

Namely, the Realtors or any other "rainmakers" for that matter who think only about themselves. You know the types, too much ego, too loud, never listens, the short word for it is

   narcissism!

Me2

In a relationship, a clue that you are living with one of these MeMe types is check how much of the blanket you have there in the old bed.

Basically they are telling you they are cold and they are not going to share.

Tough luck for you. But this is a clear an indicator of the ME syndrome that you will see.

Me3

But don't feel like the situation is hopeless with these MeMe, always look at me, kind of people.

Alas, the KARMA of the universe will again work in the end. They draw all this attention to themselves and then ONE DAY, they don't want it.

You feel vindicated. All is well again and you should smile. WHICH IS THE WHOLE POINT OF THIS PARTICULAR POST FOR YOUR DAY TODAY. SMILE.

No, I'm pretty sure MeMe you'll have to lance that one. LOL.

WooHooo!  A good one about the MeMe in a different light. Yup...those 'look at me, I am great, I am famous, I this and I that'. <yawn>  I get bored with that...but this was great! Have a great weekend Gary!

Glad to see the demise of the MeMe.  I stopped being jerked around by them ages ago.  I never understood the MeMe syndrome.  After all, it's someone else's idea.  Although, if folks have a hard time with ideas for posts, I suppose it could encourage them to just write.

Participaing in MeMe's never seemed like good time management to me.

Gary...

While I am glad to see the MeMes go, I hate to admit that I wrote a self-serving piece of fluff this morning. Talk about bad timing.

I think that the MeMe thing has migrated to FaceBook, which is a platform that is much better suited for that sort of thing. Nice post.

It's called a meme which rhymes with theme.  Meme's will survive on the internet in one form or another, they will go on on blogs and Facebook, etc.  Only a group like ActiveRain could distort it into a "MeMe."  The first meme on ActiveRain in December 2006 was all over the internent RE community inside and outside of ActiveRain.

I felt like a party pooper, but couldn't endure the guaranteed agony to try and create something of substance for my flight of fancy. In defense of the IAAMs  "It's All About Me", there are some that I love to read, because they are so darned funny.  I do't care what you write about, as long as it's illuminating, or funny, or engages me in some way.  Even some of the MeMe's were fun to read.

There's room for it all.  And you attract what you deserve.

Gary:  I used to subscribe to a blog that was written by a first class narcissist.  He was a top blogger here on AR, still is.  What I noticed about this fellow was that he was always the best, you were honored to know him and he NEVER bothered to read another's blog.  Took me a few months to understand that this was not someone to follow in the footsteps of as an AR newbie.  I canceled my subscription and never looked back.

I really love reading blogs that give me inside into the life and prespective of the writer, but don't want it to be a glorying soft of thing.  I like to hear about other people's learning experiences, their frames of reference and where they are coming from and their experience.  I don't want to hear how great they are.  I think I would be more likely to refer to a realtor who was honest about their short comings and fears and so on too.

Gary... Right on, and a good laugh. "Enough about you, it's all about me!" (ha ha)

If you have gravity, then the laws of attraction are in place. All you need do is share... Yelling ME ME ME ME... isn't sustainable, and that's a good thing. It's just noise. Or as an old girlfriend of mine use to say, "I hear the sizzle, but where's the steak?"

Have a great weekend...

Gary -

When I grow up, I want to be witty, like you!

I haven't been MeMe'd in over a year - not that I am inviting one now!  At first, I didn't know what was involved.  Then, I found them a little time consuming, distracting, and, well, to boastful.

If you want to know about me - about us - call or write and I will tell you.

Gosh I'm just chomping at the bit to name names.. but alas, we get spanked for that. We have some frighteningly gluttonous egos here, that's a fact.

At first I rather enjoyed the MeMe when we were a small community, but soon it felt like being hit with a virus everytime I got 'tagged'. Then people actually started learning about the 'real' me and things just went downhill from there :)

So glad the MeMe has seen better days. Very cute post Gary!!!

Hi Gary -- I got a MeMe request just one time, and I truly never really understood the idea, even though at some level, it may make sense.  I think a few natural posts about a reflection into someone's values, likes, and dislikes in context are much more meaningful than a ten-bullet list.

Gary - Funny post.  I was asked by a fellow realtor to voice my opinion about a broker/owner who I know on a personal level who was trying to recruit her.  He is a brilliant man but the first word that came to my mind was narcissist -  I had to refrain. I think our industry is capable of creating monsters within it who in the process of trying to sell and promote themseves, they grew in love with themselkves along the way. Sad to say, but I think some are becomming a bit more humble as the market has given all of us a good swift kick in the behind.
