Over the years of being in a referral based business, I have often thought about what might be the best gift to send to a referral partner. When I first started thinking about it, I thought about pens, pads, a padfolio, a coffee cup, a knife set, and the list continued to grow. All of these items can have your name and contact information on them, but most of them just ends up in a draw somewhere. I wanted something that would not be stuck behind some book. I also wanted something that would be great for my referral partners as well as clients that I had.

Well, I think I have found the perfect product. Can you imagine putting your company logo & a message on MY M&M'S candies. When I first heard about this idea, I was blown away. The more that I thought about it, the more I realized that I do not know a single person that does not like M&M's, so I thought that this would be a great idea.

Check it out and let me know what you think.

Delicious idea! I saw an ad for personalizing m&m's in a magazine but haven't seen it used for real estate . . . pretty unique and memorable I think!

I referred a listing to an out of the area agent.....it was only a small home (priced under $200,000) so I just asked her to take care of my clients, no split. She was very nice, the house sold for $213,000 and she sent me a $10 Starbucks card....$10? I think it would have made a better statement to just send a card....funny people.

I have been hearing about the M&M candies.  I don't know that I would give as a gift - maybe at an Open house or marketing event.  For customers, I like to design and construct a hand-made custom quilt.  I want my gift to really mean something and to last a long time.  Now that things are busier and I have less time for the time-consuming art of quilting, I am in the market for other thoughtful gifts.

Sara, yummy gifts are always a great thing.

Karen, I would agree. These gifts are meant to be in addition to the referral fees.

An, once business picks up for everyone, no one will have time to even think about making something themselves.

Danny,

Its an interesting thought, but that gift won't be around forever to remind them about you and your service. They will eat it and then poof your gone! I do a gift basket and a wine opener with my name & phone number for my clients that drink wine. This way I am always at their fingertips!

Oh yeah, I would be that one client that does not eat M&M's. I am a non-chocolate girl. I know its nuts, but I don't like it and never have. My husband is happy to be spared that expense on our anniversary and Valentines Day. hee hee!

;)

Betina, you are correct that it would be gone, but if you make the right impression, it is a lasting one regardless what the gift is.

The thing is with candy...it generally gets eaten before anyone notices the advertisement on it

We have given cookie bouquets with our company logo ,as the cookie, as closing gifts....those seem to do well

It is an interesting idea. But I prefer something that may stick around for a while, serving as a reminder that I am still in the business.

BLRGuy, I for one love the cookie idea.

Cheryl, that is understandable. But, as I stated to Betina, if the job is done right, then the gift is not what sets the reminder. I am not referring to using this to market your name, I am suggesting giving this as a gift. If people need a reminder other than I work of why to send business our way then I think we did something wrong in our work.

Danny,

I have seen that before, it did seem a little expensive to me.

Rebecca, I thought it was a good price for what it was.

The only problem with M&M's is you might eat them all up before you have the opportunity to give them away...

Mary, that is why you order them sealed. I would have the same issues with any candy.

It definitely makes a statement.  Chocolate YUM!  I think the impression it will give will be lasting long after the candies are gone.  It does seem a bit expensive but that makes even more memorable and thoughtful.

Marie, anything that is worthwhile is not expensive.
