The first thing I'd like to say about REBar Camp is that Krystal Kraft, Larry McGee and Vali Wimberly as well as many others did a great job organizing this event. The sheer volume of people, t-shirts, name tags, presentations, parking, event site, food, sponsors, web sites and promotion and who knows what else had to be a crushing mind numbing process. Kudos to all of you! Have another Mojilto courtesy of Ines Hegedus Garcia.

Things I learned at REBar Camp

1) Don't go with any expectations! I always go to events with expectations and almost always disappointed that those expectations aren't met. However - I did come away with so much more and better than anticipated introductions, information and experiences.

2) This was a "social event" not a teaching session. Go with an open mind. And please introduce yourself, smile and wear a name tag. Like many events we were given large name tages and chords to wear around our necks. However, I rarely heard anyone use a name or introduce themselves. I wore my every day name tag, people noticed and used my name.

3) If you are presenting introduce yourself! Most of us are not mind readers. I sat next to a woman in a couple presentations who kept asking me the name of the person in front and the name of the session. Eventually she got frustrated and left the room.

4) The position of God has been taken, I checked! Please check your ego at the door. Specifically, if your are presenting, flew in for the event and have a "name" please act like a human being. You started out in life soiling your diapers just like the rest of us.

5) I know that I don't know it all! I went to sessions I thought I knew nothing about but as it turns out I did have a clue or two. ............But the conversations going on around me, the off handed comments and information circulating was fascinating. So eves drop or break out of the sessions to learn more.

6) "Social Objects" Ask Ines Hegedus Garcia about the hows and whys.

7) Pimp your Blog, Keep it Real, IRL

8) Offer a door prize  I think most of the people who stayed until the end enjoyed the door prizes being given away. If I had thought about it I would have brought more. Vali Wimberly had us in tears laughling while she drew names for door prizes. BTW: Thank you to Elaine Manes from www.awonderfulspace.com for my door prize.

9) Polishing Turds is a good thing :)

10) Mowing your own lawn can be as easy or difficult as you would like it to be. Ask Jeff Turner for details.

My most interesting observation? All the 20 some things schooling the 40+ folks in how it's done. It's a new and improved world, keep up or get out of the way.

Dena - sounds like an excellent networking adn learning experience. I watched a bit on Qik and on TWitter but was monitoring a CRS class so could not be an involved  on-line as I would have liked. The last event I went to was a terrific experience and I will definitely go again.

Hi Dena, It was my pleasure to meet you and several others at REBar Camp.  I thought they did an excellent job, and I learned somethings as well. But #9 ?? I missed that one, I guess I'll have to go back next year to learn about that---unless you'd like to share LOL!!

Thank you Mary, it was a pleasure to meet you as well. The best part of the meeting yesterday was getting to meet people in person.

Polishing Turds was about following up dead leads or leads that others think are worthless. The gentleman who lead the session had unusual ideas on how to work your business. He is an employing broker with some creative ideas.

George, I'm still stunned at the egos that arrived at the event.

Jeff, I remember reading your blog not long ago talking about the Bar camp in Calif. I really thought about going to that one and will consider going to others around the country.

Sounds interesting. I've been to events with some of the people you mentioned and thought they were very helpful. Never to REBar though.

Hmmm.... Presenters that think their X%8# don't stink.  Hope they don't show up in Philly...

Dena,  It was good to see you there.  I was so nutty busy all day, it's taken 3 days for me to even start reading the reviews.  I hope over all you had a good time.

Hi Dena - loved your review of REBCDen.  Your bullets hit the mark, especially #3, 4, and 8.  Your number 4 had me dying laughing - sadly that's exactly how it is for some people, and those people should read your words and take them to heart.

REBarCamps are fun and great networking opportunities.  They're also great places to pick up some interesting information for our businesses and to learn about some new things that we might not otherwise have known about.

I watched some of Denver on the live streams - it was clear a lot of effort, time, and hard work went into pulling that off.  Kudos to Kristal and everyone else who helped me it a success.

Ann, I  am following you, Moni and Linda on Twitter so I got bits and pieces of your trip. I need to go see who wrote more about REBar in Philly or Boston?

Hi Dena!

I attended the very first REBar Camp in San Francisco.  It felt a lot different then the one in Philly.  I guess they each take on their own personality.  I'm going to try to make the one in Boston to see how that one feels.

Dena, I just wanted to stop in and say hello.  I have not been a presenter at any BarCamp but I have attended so I will quietly listen to the convo of this post.

I've been to PHX which rock-a-diled like a crock-a-dile.  Maybe some day I'll hop behind the mic.   :)

I would hope each REBar camp would have it's own "flavor" the one in Denver was just wonderful! But like Chris and Linda said each one has it's positive and no doubt negative points. I'd gladly go to another either in Denver or out of town in a heart beat. The list above wasn't meant to be mean or harmful, just my observations. My observations and the events that took place really had nothing to do with each other.

I received an e-mail from somebody today who was at a recent REBar camp event. That person had as much fun or more away from the event as they did at the actual event. But I suppose that's the point. You get out of it what you put into it.

Again, I'd like to thank Kristal, Larry, Val and the nice lady with the long hair for all their hard work. It did not go unnoticed! And anyone who didn't go really missed out on an opportunity.
