A reminder to remember the true meaning of Memorial Day was posted by my AR CT friend, Donna. It is a day to honor and pay respect to our heroes, both men and women of the Armed Forces, who died  serving our country to give us our FREEDOMS. The patriotic song America the Beautiful is  beautifully sung and played by Ray Charles

Ame4ican FlagMany of us will be spending this three day weekend with family and friends at picnics, at the beach, attending parades and celebrating the start of summer in observance of Memorial Day. Others will be watching the running of the Indianapolis 500 which since 1911 is one of the longest standing traditions held in conjunction with Memorial Day.

Memorial Day also known as Decoration Day is officially observed on May 30 to commemorate our fallen soldiers dating back to the Civil War.

In December 2000, Congress passed the National Moment of Remembrance Act asking all Americans to pause for one minute of silence at 3:00 pm local time to remember our fallen soldiers and to promote a greater understanding of the meaning of the Memorial Day holiday.

This weekend is the time to join others and observe this holiday by visiting cemeteries and memorials and flying the flag of the United State of America.

Please take a moment this Memorial Day to solemnly reflect on its true meaning of family, honor, duty, commitment, faith and heroism as we are profoundly indebted to all the men and women of the Armed Forces who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.
