I have written often about my Uncle who fought in North Africa and on Omaha Beach on D Day.  There were other battles here and there, the last being the Battle of the Bulge, before he was sent home wounded to recover.  I am sure that had the World War II continued past the time that he needed to recover, he would have tried to go back and fight some more.  What he was fighting for meant that much to him!

I am not going to put fancy things like photos or clip art in this article, because going by who and what my Uncle was, he didn't really want the fancy things.  He was just a guy that did his part, the Heroes, they were the ones that didn't come home, or if they did, they did so in flag draped coffins.

To them, all of them and you that have fought to preserve our freedom, I say thank you!  To those that didn't come home, again I say thank you!  What you did for us, at least to some of use is as important to us;  as what it was that you were  fighting for was to each of you!  So many of you sacrifice all of your tomorrows so that we can have today, I only wish that the general populace in this country would get it!  This isn't just the first 3 day weekend of summer.  This is the weekend where we all should say thank you, each and every one of you for your service and sacrifice.

Thanks again!

The ones who didn't come home were the ones that needed to hear our thanks the most and I hope they realized as they went off to war that we knew they may not come home, but we also will make a promise to never forget what they did for our freedom.

Amen to all that.  As the son and grandson of a vet, I truly appreciate the sentiments.  Myfamily members made it home, but they remember those that didn't.

Very eloquently put Tony and Darcy.  As Canadians we share the same sentiment.  We salute your fine enlisted people, past and present and tell them so when we see them in the airports.

We had so many Memorial Day events here that I couldn't keep track of them all. Every military base and every city got into the act, and even some neighborhoods that are heavily populated by military personnel had events. As an Air Force Brat, I thought it was pretty awesome.
