College Graduations - Reminiscent and Inspiring

Last weekend I had the pleasure of being present for my niece's graduation at Hobart William Smith Chris and his niece Lynn Christine College in Geneva, NY.   The drive to and from Philadelphia brought upon reflection and inspiration.  It is amazing how fast time has flown as it is hard to believe my niece is now a college graduate !  I met my family at a beautiful cottage not far from the campus and the time spent with them over the weekend was well worth the drive as well.  It is not too often that both myself and my 2 sisters as well as my parents are under one roof !

The campus was divine and there was so much energy and happiness from the graduates as well as from their friends and family.  In a time where the economy and consumer confidence is low, I was inspired by this energy and vigor with all these youngsters full of passion and ideology that are coming into the world as well as the work-force.  The positive energy I felt being there is still with me today.

I could not help but remember that it has been 19 years since I graduated from the University of Maryland, a young man not having any idea where I would end up nor how I would get there.  Yet, I was so full of energy and hope.  I was ready to jump and believed that the net would appear.  Even today, I believe that as well - I am just not as much of a risk taker as I was then !

We can all take a moment and reflect how beautiful life is and how short it can be as well.  Those young energetic college graduates sure did inspire me to continue to take that extra step towards greatness and awareness.  Below are some additional photos of the graduation:

A friend of mine is a senior in college this year. It seems like yesterday he was 8-years old. Time flies and stops for no man.

Graduations are such a great time to reflect.  A few years ago both sons of mine graduated from Catholic University in Washington DC.  The commencement speaker was the late Tony Snow.   He was incredible, inspiring, and full of faith and hope.  He taught many lessons that day, and I was proud to be there.  Inspirations can come from many sources, it can even come from lessons learned in failure.

Chris... damn, you just made me realize how old we are when you stated that it's been 19 years since you graduated from college. WOW, and who said that we were having fun... lol

So what inspires me at times?  Watching my nieces & nephews grow up...  and how they love to learn.  And it sounds like a good time and a good chance in getting together with family. PS... your niece is cute.  ;o)    PPS... are you and Stephanie going to the beers for bloggers Tuesday night or the next day, at the Philly REbarcamp?

Bob and Carolin - Yes, it was an excellent time for sure !

Steve - You got that right.  Is quite amazing how fast things go.  Especially with children and teenagers as they turn into adults right before your very eyes.

Jim - So true.  Thanks for the wisdom in your comment and the sharing of that moment.  I agree that inspiration can come at any time and we all need to be open to it.  On this day, it was beautiful and energetic with so many happy faces of both graduates and faculty as well as family and friends.

Jeff - It is amazing.  I have to face the facts sooner or later that I am getting old !  Yes, I will be at RE Bar Camp on Wed although will get there late as I have a settlement that morning.  Stephanie and I should also be going to the get-together the night before as well.

Chris, I remember graduating from Towson State some 15 years ago and having that great sense of accomplishment! It's a wonderful feeling - similar to buying a home. University of Maryland....what a great school. My husband graduated from College Park some 20 years ago...perhaps you passed each other.

Linda - That is awesome.  It is great to remember those college days.  I know University of Maryland has changed a lot since I was there.  I graduated in 1990.  Lived in Somerset dorm for 2 years, than a Knox Box and then outside campus for the last year.  It was a lot of fun !  Perhaps I did pass your husband on campus.  Is such a great school !  And graduating certainly is a great accomplishment !  Even now, I am remembering all the work, studying and so forth (along with the parties and everything else !)
