If you leave a comment, Russel will visit your blog and comment. My father was an Air Force pilot who wanted desperately to fly in the Korean War. He was a teenager during World War II and always dreamed of protecting or defending his country.

Unfortunately, kind of, by the time he was eligible to go to Korea, he found out that they were due their second child (not me! I was third), and just a few days after their second son was born, an armistice was signed (July 27, 1953).

Although we don't have an Air Force base here in San Diego, we do have plenty of military, with the Chamber of Commerce here claiming that San Diego has the second largest concentration of military personnel in the free world, after the D.C./Arlington area.

My father died when I was only five, unfortunately not as a part of the U.S. military forces. Nonetheless, each Memorial Day, I do think of him. I'm sure he's up there flying a plane somewhere.

Hey, Steve and Caron.

What the heck are you doing at your computer on Memorial Day? Wait. I'm here, too. Nevermind. Although I'm just leaving to go do an inspection on a downtown highrise condo.

Russel, your military photos are really inspiring! Is that photo of the sailor kissing the lady a large statue??

Hey, Caren - It's a monster statue. If you look closely, you can see a couple of people in the photo to give you perspective.

Hi Russel!  Thanks for sharing your story!  The military photos are very nice and a excellent way to remember your father on Memorial Day.  I hope you had a great weekend.

One thing I've noticed about San Diego is that there have to be more flags flying in this city than anywhere else in the world.

I got to take the Midway tour over the Christmas holidays, courtesy of my girlfriend, who gave it to me as one of my many Christmas presents.
