Remembering my dad and all other veterans on Memorial Day

Grave marker for Horace C EthridgeEven though my dad was a veteran, he was out of the service before I was born and never talked much about it. This Memorial Day though, I've really spent some time remembering that part of his life. You see, my dad passed away two months ago yesterday, so these past few weeks have been filled with remembrances of my father. He served our country in both World War II and in Korea. I'd like to thank all of our war time veteran's for their service, especially those who served in WWII.

Hey, David - My dad was in the Marines, and my husband's dad was in the Air Force. I grew up in Riverside. What cemetary is your dad buried in? One here on the West Coast?

Hey Jim -- My dad is buried at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Milledgeville. It's a newer VA cemetery built just a few years ago. My uncle Edwin Vinson is buried there also.

My dad was also in the Air Force. He dreamed of flying in the Korean War, but by the time he was eligible, mommy was expecting yours truly, and by the time yours truly was big enough to be left alone just with mom and older brother, the Armistice had been signed.
