Do you have a Tiger in your Tank??

By

They say a picture speaks a 1000 words, but seriously, how do your words paint the picture?

Since being on Active Rain, and commenting on MANY people's blogs, it has become increasingly disturbing to me the trend I am noticing!  That trend is the KNOW IT ALL vs. THE DEFENSIVE MECHANISM trend!

It has always been my understanding that blogging served several purposes, but none of them were related to the ongoing BATTLE I am seeing both on AR and other networks!

How did we reverse this trend you ask? Well, maybe we need to "tame" the Tiger that is in our tank and be more open and acceptable to change and suggestion!

Well, at least that is my suggestion! LOL

I have seen COUNTLESS blogs where the author introduced an idea or subject and then others questioned them about it, and they IMMEDIATELY went on the defensive!  HEY, slow down!  Cool your jets!  AR and others like it, serve many purposes, but an arguing platform is NOT ONE THAT I WANT TO UTILIZE it for!

Many of us hope & pray that the people posting on here have done their homework!  We are all hoping the information provided is accurate, informative, and applicable, because let's face it...it does take some time to LOGIN, Click in to someones blog, read it, understand it, and then comment on it!  I  KNOW I APPRECIATE VERY MUCH the time that people put into the comments on MY BLOG!

REALTORS, yes I agree, it is YOUR JOB to question EVERYONE INVOLVED in a transaction, JUST AS MUCH AS IT IS A LOAN OFFICERS JOB to question YOU!!  Get over it!  Loan officers, REALTORS BRING YOU BUSINESS!!! HELLO???  They are VERY important!  Get over yourself and your wisdom and knowledge you have gained over the last 3 years in the business!  (yes, that was tongue & cheek)  I say LEARN TO LEARN from each OTHER!!!  Crouching tiger!!

 Walt Disney once said:

"We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we're curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

 He also said

"We are not trying to entertain the critics. I'll take my chances with the public. "

Now, I realize that we in the Real-Estate Business have egos, confidence, arrogance, cockiness, relentlessness, experience, and a fortitude that rivals almost any field or job description!  Let's not forget that in the end, that the customer is who we are trying to gain & their TRUST is what we are trying to earn!  The relationship we have between Realtors & Lenders needs to be seamless, coordinated and POSITIVE!

Being Memorial Day, I think of the sacrifices that our veterans past, present, and deceased have made for our Freedoms!  Hence, it makes the sacrifices we make on a daily basis seem pretty miniscule.

Whether it be showing off your "taxi skills", your lack of loan knowledge, disagreeing about what a pre-approval or prequalification letter is, arguing about WHO'S job it is to prequalify a borrower, or even nitpicking about a "red flags rule" on a credit report, I ask you to consider this....is it really a sacrifice, or can you just give the Tiger in your Tank a rest? ...EVEN IF IT IS FOR JUST ONE DAY!

God Bless America!

There are more and more times recently when I've thought about throwing in the AR towel and taking all my posts to my "other blog."  I don't mind disagreement but I do mind people who decide to make the attacks personal.

Going defensive is an instinct.  You stomp my idea, I have to defend why I feel my idea is good, if not superior to your idea.  That's how we're made...

Cindy-  You know, the funny thing was.. it wasnt even MY blog that I am talking about!~   There were several VERY ACTIVE ones, that due to the negative, argumentative comments made by just a few people, it actually TURNED the blogger on me and others as well!  Once someone gets SO FAR IN on commenting, they cannot turn back!  Thanks so much for sharing...that is wonderful!

I have always liked to hear other people opinions. I have found that many think this is a weakness. I look at it as the strength because I have more information to base all my decision on.

I agree...cant we all learn to get along?? Thankfully, even when we hit a bump in the road, I think getting along with Everyone involved in a transaction is the best thing. I mean really? Aren't we going to work together again in the future? Great post!

BARB- I practice at learning every day!  That is one of the many things AR helps ME with!  I dont parade my experience of 20 years...becuz in the end, it doesnt really matter!  Education, learning, and the customer, are what I TRY to focus on!  I have to practice too!!! LOL-   Thanks again!  D

Donna-  I think sadly, that sometimes WE BLOGGERS put ourselves in a position to become defensive!  Sometimes, it isnt a matter of wrong or right!  Moreover, a matter of accuracy, and steering people will to accept change in the right direction!  This threatens some people becuz people in general are afraid of the unknown!  Again, not my blogs I have seen this on!   In fact, i would LOVE to have people argue with me on mine..but truly, I havnt had one yet!  I am blessed!  I just dont like ATTACKS on people who DO know what they are doing..and the point is hugely missed!  I actually  have made comments on blogs, where people say I AM introducing things they didn't bring up.  I have then cut & pasted the direct line from their blog...and then, they dont consider it helpful to even respond back!  That in and of itself, is also frustrating!  When I am wrong...I am the FIRST PERSON to stand up, waive my hand, and say...YEP, i screwed up!  When I am not, I am staunch!!! :)  Thanks so much for sharing!  I appreciate it!

Hansons-  YEP, Bucky does have a big head!   I have been accused of that too, however, to some degree we HAVE TO BE confident in our abilities today!  I personally, spend 2 hours per day in my Time Management just on education!  It is a challenge to see calls coming in during that time, and sending them to voicemail..but, if I dont do it...I wont be accurate, and forthright later!  Thanks as always!>>>oh, and I WILL blog on!  LOL  ...Buckster!

DANIEL-  WOW you actually said it better than I could possibly do it in a simple sentence!  TOTALLY agree with you!   I LOVE opinions....I dont think they are like %%#holes...I think they are VERY VITAL to our industry, and while I love a "spirited discussion", i think the ability to ACCEPT other opinions, is what the challenge is!  Typically, you see this issue pop up with old warhorses in the industry.  Warhorse's though do ONE THING in particular VERY VERY WELL!  THEY KEEP DOING WHAT MADE THEM SUCCESFUL, or got them there in the first place!  Like, doing mailers, phone calls, bday cards etc...all the things we USED to do!  I thank them and appreciate them for that!!!  Thanks again!  darin

Kelli- Yep!  EVEN WHEN i have  rough transaction, which doesnt alot, thankfully...I look at it the same way...YOU NEVER KNOW when the person on the other end, might be on the other end again!!!  LOL

Thanks so much for commenting!  PLEASE stop back often!   Darin

Darin...Interesting thoughts you have here.  I see "arguing" occasionally.  Other than that, I see a lot of discussion and dialogue as to people's thoughts and opinions.  I enjoy the difference of opinion and the fact that those opinions cause me to look at situations in a different light.  Be blessed today!

Hi Sarah-  Thanks for your comments as always!  They are appreciated!  I agree with you, that even arguing is OKAY...if done professionally!  Ridiculous the level it has gotten to a few times on here!  I also love LEARNING from the followup comments, and often times see the points a person takes the time to make ignored by the blogger!  I think that if sometime takes the time to BLOG, then they are asssuming the responsiliby of follow up answers to questions, as well as addressing additional concerns!  Thanks again!    -   Darin

HI Cheryl, YEP< you are right!  You almost duplicated what Kelli said earlier in the comments!

I LOVE the different opinions!  I really do!  ONE THOUGH I disagree with, and you may have hear this...

"They dont do things like that here"...I always laugh!  Customers are customers!  No matter where you go....no matter where you live...!  If I were doing a loan in IOWA< CALIFORNIA< or, here in Wisconsin..the only difference would be the documents and disclosure law!  THAT I NEED HELP WITH!!!

I completely agree with you and appreciate your sharing!
