What's Been Happening In & Around Ocean City, New Jersey

My wife and I attended an "Ocean City Fine Arts League" Movie Night" on May 21st at St. Peter's United Methodist Church, Eighth and Central Avenue.  Showing times are 7PM, and movie nights will continue every other month through January, 2010.  These "Art-Related Movies" represent a good way for the Art League to introduce itself to others as well as provide specific entertainment for both it s members and the community.

The donation is $5.00 per person ... and they also have a popcorn machine so you purchase a treat.  You can contact Bill Sines (Artist) at 609-653-4330 or sinesw@verzion.net.  Another phone number was also listed for obtaining more information:  609-814-0308.

The first film was "The Rape of Europa:  How the second world war changed the art world."  As a history major, I had read some books on the topic, and had seen parts of this film before.  It tracked the Nazi theft of paintings and art work from Poland to France to Russia (and other locations throughout Europe).  It also highlighted the local efforts of people to track and maintain a record of their losses.  It included WWII military involved with the return of these treasures telling their story.  It was certainly a dramatic film ... a good start for the Movie Night.

The remaining Schedule  includes:  "Andy Warhol:  Life and Death" on July 16th, "Annie Leibovitz:  Life though a lens" on September 17th, "The Impressionists - Part I" on November 19th, and "The Impressionists - Part II" on January 21st (2010).

The Ocean City Fine Arts League also requests that you become a "Friend of the Arts" with a contribution to support artistic, cultural and community activities sponsored by the league throughout the year.  They are located at 608 Asbury Avenue in Ocean City, New Jersey.

About 15 people attended the first movie night ... if we each ask two or three more people to attend, we will be the 50s in two months, over a hundred two months after that.                                Dap
