Worthington's Walnut Grove Cemetery is 150 years old.  There is a celebration at the historic cemetery on Sunday June 7, 2009 from 1:00 to 3:00.

The cemetery is 5561 Milton Avenue in Worthington, Ohio.  Just north of the southern border of Worthington and the city of Columbus. Cemetery Road will take you to Milton Avenue or you can get to it from W. Lincoln Rd.The Walnut Grove Cemetary is adjacent to the Davis Estate neighborhood on the south end of Worthington.  Antrim Park is on the west side of Walnut Grove Cemetery.Worthingtons Walnut Grove Cemetery

The Walnut Grove Cemetery had a float in the Worthington Memorial Day Parade this year. There is a picture of the float in the Slideshow link below.  There is also a picture of a lady dressed up as 150 years ago...The lady with the  long white dress and the parasol? Would that be how ladies in Worthington Ohio c. 1849 would dress?

Old cemeteries really fascinate me.  The history that is there is amazing.  Are you going?

I think I will.  I have a 2:00 open house and some clients who find something last minute to look at most Sundays but I think I can do all three and church and breakfast....  This cemetery is really tucked away between a park and a residential area.  Worthington has at least one older cemetery which is right off the Village Green.

I have never really been one to go to cemeteries, old or new.

I agree with Ed above...when my hubby and I go for Harley rides in the countryside, we often stop and read the old inscriptions/dates/etc.  Walnut Grove...do the Ingalls live there?  he hee

Was Walnut Grove where the Ingalls lived in WI or when they went west?  I suppose Little House in the Big Woods coulda been Walnut Grove?  Loved all those books.

Last year we went for a walk in a historic graveyard in Dublin and I took some great photos of old, old grave stones.  Heck I took pictures last week in the St. John Church Cemetery, the one off the Village Green so I am spending more time in cemeteries than I want to admit.

Maureen, did you know that people living in Worthington can't be buried in that cemetery?

Gee...it must be an Ohio thing..it would not have occured to me to use "fun" and cemetary in the same sentence...reading the markers in old cemetaries can be interesting..fun...hmmm..

Sadly I did NOT get to the celebration of the Walnut Grove Cemetery yesterday... printing  problems (not all mechanical)  getting fact sheets for my Riverlea (just minutes from the cemetery) open house ready consumed the first hour when I planned on stopping by to see what a celebration of a cemetery would be like.
