10,000 Comments Made

This isn't about points or position. I made a goal to make 10,000 comments here in the rain and do so prior to June 1,2009. I am delighted that last evening, I posted that the 10,000th comment.

Of those ten thousand comments, one comment was over 1000 words. Literally over a page and a half in length. Of the ten thousand comments, well over two hundred would have qualified better as posts instead of comments. I guess I can get a little wordy now and then.

Of my readers and those I read on a regular basis, I think this was a goal that was more testament to the kinds of content we have here in the Rain. From the great tutorials, , literally classes on Short Sales and Reo's , Photography tips and guides, lots written about SEO, Ethics, Video, and more resources than most any of us could ever find on our own. Testimonials about the services , like Market Leader, Localism guides, you name it we have it. And that doesn't even begin to define the great listings, Local market reports, local things to do, events, and especially now " all about Social networking" on Twitter and Facebook.

With so much to read and learn from and so much to write about, the comments are there to add viewpoints, shared experiences, adding more insight  and most of all  to support my many friends and colleagues here in the Rain.

So I am very pleased that I made it this far and I am about to set new goals and will share them as well. I actually had people mentioning this to me the last few days helping to keep me on track. Here on ActiveRain, one never has to ask " What are friends for". I am here to be your friend and welcome your reciprocal friendship. Thank you all for bringing such great writings  to the Rain and sharing them for all the rest of us to read and learn from. This blogging and commenting is an amazing life experience and I am so glad I am not missing it.

William,

It is interesting that in the last few days there are a lot of milestones. Two 500K points, 1000 blogs. etc.

Your 10,000 commentsis a huge number, and I can only imagine how many members here on AR appreciated your support and encouragement like I did.

I will be here to congratulate you on 300K, coming soon.

William:  Congratulations on your 10,000 comments.  One thing that I occasionally do... is that when I end up writing such a long comment... that usually means I have gotten onto something quite interesting.  Often when that happens, I turn around and fashion that same comment... with some changes... into it's own post.

Indeed.  The first thing in the a.m., after working through overnight mail, is my daily "ActiveRain" class.  The articles are informative, offer some fun and beauty in some fabulous photos.

Comment is so important.  Folks who do not take the time to even acknowledge comments to their posts miss a lot of wonderful conversations.

I think that ActiveRain should give you at least 100,000 bonus points since you only averaged 11 points per comment.  The ten comments/day point limit is to keep down the point spammers.  But you have showed that points wasn't the motivation for your comments. I'd actually recommend that you receive points for every comment you have made.

Hi Mark,How long did it take. If I said 2 hours a day would that be meaningful? That is about the time it takes to read and write them. I would believe that many others could and have done it faster though as I am not the fastest or best typist. But I also have languished for as much as an hour on one post. There are some here that are such amazing teaching aides, that it takes a good bit of time to learn them. There have been some posts written here in the Rain that are more difficult to read than calculus. Not because they are not well done but because they have so much content to learn. For some posts, I have even printed them because the content was so rich with ideas and you should know that I wanted to keep them in my documents file for reference. I have 50 or 60 in my file titled, Reference Library for Real Estate. Each one a gift that is like taking a Masters course at a University. So how long did it take? All I really know it that it was worth every second.

Hi Vicki, You said that exactly right. One of your words discriptions, "Full Spectrum" is particularly articulate. You should write that post, "The Full Spectrum of ActiveRain". With so much content, there is a great need to recap it, organize it  and appreciate the diverse amount of content and the  amazingly large depth of it coverage.

Hi Jon, Have you ever gone on a driving trip and it just seems that you couldn't take it all in , there was so much to see. That is sort of the way it is here in the Rain. When one looks at the blogging world, there is much out there for sure, not much of which actually changes things in your life. Here in the Rain, it seems that almost daily there is a gift in the members posts that gives us so much. Sometimes it is perspective. Some times it is a new link that gives us a great service. Some times is an explanation of what some of the new things that affect our markets are about. But rarely a day goes by that each of us are not enriched with either content or friendships that are being created. What first attracted me to you was in some of your earlier posts that reflected yur pride in our country and your admonishments of some who don't appreciate what we uniquely have here in this country. And this from an appreciative immigrant from a country that doesn't very often share our values. So I'd say , your perspective is an authoritative one. I have watched you grow and grow and get featured with some absolutely wonderful content. And here you are complimenting me. Now that is friendship worth having, isn't it. It is me that appreciates what you bring to the table for all of us. It is your eyes and perspective that has widened even my own.

Good Morning Sharon, Thank you so much for that wonderful photo. Yep, I am fascinated with birds and wildlife in general. Last year there are an orangish fussy creature with a black face and long tail that was not cat, but looked like it was in the monkey family that ran right past me in my back yard. I couldn't believe what  was seeing. I was not in Asia or Africa nor do I live by the zoo for that matter so what could it have been? I never did find out but my memory of it is clear and eventually I will likely discover that a neighbor owned a pet that was not of the domestic variety. No other possible explanation, for it was amazing in appearance and cute at the same time.

The luncheon at the Golden Door was very special and the experience was one I shall always remember. One would expect if he or she was a patron to enjoy such experiences. But to be invited when  that is not normal procedure and then to be welcomed and catered to as though I were a patron was very special indeed.

Thank you for your support and encouragemnt along the way, it is both meaningful and treasured by me always.

Hi Karen, I need to do that more often. I did t a couple times but then thought I might have taken someone else's thunder. Part of the learning process in blogging is that it is our unique perspective that makes what we contribute so valuable. And over time as we learn more, it also changes our perspective. And I think that is the right order of things. Thanks for dropping over and sharing your insight, it is a good guide for each of us to contribute more with even better content.

Hi Jackie, That is a good way to start the day. Some of the insightful writings here give each us a better way to cmmunicate to our clients. And we also learn the many different ways that something can be communicated now with all our new trainings on social networks.  I was thinking this morning if we on Active Rain only represented 1 % of the real estate professionals with the great amount of information we have access to, if we al applied what we have, that old 80/20 rule would be out the window. Can you even imagine what it was like before we  were involved with all the great information we have now. Do you ever wonder how the rest of our industry makes it day to day without all this great stuff to back them up. I have even wondered if there will come a day when the rest won't even be able to compete without first learning much of what we already have shared with each other. It would seem they are at a distinct disadvantage in the market place. If not yet, soon.

Hi Jen, I wish for you some of the same great experiences and friendships that I have had here. As an example, when San Diego had the few a couple years , do you know who was checking on me to see I was OK? The members and friends here in the RAIN. We look after each other Jen and I  am so pleased that you dropped over and if you ever need anything, be sure to ask because though a couple are driven by points, most of us are driven by our goals , self improvement and wanting to share it with others and create a win win for all of us. We are unique in the world , especially when you realize how many care so much that our members and friends have whatever they need.

Hi Margaret, Thank you so much and that was so sweet of you to say that. I do try my best. I, like you and so many others put so much into writing our posts, I would feel guilty just saying "nice post" or something like it. I figure that the person took the time ( in many cases a lot of research time) to write and the least I can do is try and add a little something of value if I can. Plus it is there that we really get to share who we are and how we think or even how we might be benefited by what they are sharing.

Back in school days , I am sure we all wanted to be cool and often said or implied we knew more than we actually did. Here in the Rain, it makes so much better sense to seek as much guidance as we need instead of not really getting it and saying otherwise. There is so much talent and so many gifted writers and knowlegable practioners and most want to share what they know. I am like a sponge and love to give anything I have to benefit anyone I can. You are that way as well as most of those we subscribe to.

That is what makes the whole system work so well.

Who could ever have imagined that so many would be willing to give so much,  when our actual experience in the business ( in our offices usually) give us a markedly different picture. Yet here we are, pouring it out or sucking it all in since it all for free and we do it with so much enthusiasm. Loving it!

William..... or can I call you Bill, if we are AR friends.   Anyhoo... Seriously...  you make an excellent point and I will agree with Missy Caulk, in regards to what you spoke about in defining commenting.  I am also one of those that tends to write a mini blog, sometimes a book, when commenting.  Ask Sardi, because he makes fun of me.  But as sad as it may sound, I just don't get to comment as much as I use to. I find replying to comments in my blogs just takes way too much time, and I usually do write mini blogs as responses.  But you know what, without really following you, I can see that you seem to be the same as myself when it comes to responding. I am not sure how many people appreciate that, but I know I do.  Nice job here... congrats.. and next, onto your next 10,000 comments...  ;o)

I am closing in on 9000 comments myself.  It is not easy...  Some days I have to read 20 posts to get ten good comments.  Other days make up for it because I can write 20 comments without breaking a sweat...  And I HAVE converted a couple to posts.

Congrats.

OOPS, Me Bad, I did this out of order but I was so excited I forgot that I still had over 40 other comments to address first.

Woo Hoo, You are so right. Did you know where my 10,00th comment was entered. On your post announcing your new milestone of 500,000 points it was sheer coincidence that that was post. I was ready to write a comment and wanted it on your post so I clicked on you on the dashboard and there was was your Hallmark Post of 500,000 points. Well, my comments goal can't hold a candle to your numbers but I am delighted that I got to write it on your post. I sort of preferred since I wouldn't likely forget where I posted it, LOL.

HI William!  Congrats both on the feature and the number of comments you've made here.  Your comments are always thoughtful and kind and you are certainly a bright spot for many here in the Rain.  And, we don't even mind your wordiness!  LOL

Here's to the next 10K!

Hi Missy, Thank you so much for your wonderful comments. We have made some fantastic friendships and what we have learned being associated here is worth a fortune, at least it would take a fortune to learn it all some where else, LOL.

It seems like I have been on this site all day, in between clients, phone calls, contracts, photocopying, printing , agent sites , setting appointments for tomorrow showings. I have put in another 16 hour day and I am whacked, LOL. I had another friend sign up and she put me over the 300K points tonight. I am one month ahead of where I thought I would be. That next big hurdle of 400K looms and I wish there was a shortcut but I know there isn't any but I keep thinking someone will will those points to me, LOL.

Thanks as always for your wonderful support and feiendship. I treasure you greatly.

Hi Bill, Thanks so much, I would bet you are over the 10K.  I think we are the only ones that see that. It doesn't show up in the points summary anywhere but only on our home page. I keep meaning to get over there and post a comment on your blogs and I will do in a bit.

Take care my friend and have a great sales weekend.

I've been under the weather with bronchitis (went to doctor Friday) and it was 'coming on' from early last week. I am doing better today but still not 100%. I thank you Willliam....for your comment on my post when you hit that 10k comments made mark. I'll remember that one :)

Congratulations.  I am one of your regular readers and also see your comments from time to time.  San Diego is one of my favorite cities and I am following the real estate market there too.
