As real estate brokers, we are Ambassadors for our own regions. Show me one real estate agent who hates the area they work and live, and I'll show you one agent who should leave the business.
"In the know" real estate agents -- those who embrace blogging and Web 2.0 already know this and thus post this type of information on their blogs to educate and also to entice consumers to work with them because of their knowledge. Not to mention the longtail search engine optimization.
Just over a year ago, Maryland, which borders my home state of Virginia, decided to raise the taxes on its residents who earn over $1 million per year -- the so-called "Millionaire Tax."
I decided to use this as the perfect opportunity to encourage Maryland millionaires to consider moving down to Virginia! Here's my blog post from April 9, 2008: Virginia Welcomes Migration of Maryland Millionaires
A couple of weeks ago, the state of Maryland reported that state tax revenues were down. 1/3 less Maryland taxpayers reporting incomes over $1 million from a year prior. Where'd they go? As this news was spreading, the producers of the Neil Cavuto Show on Fox News researched the story, and stumbled upon my year-old blog post on Page One of Google.
At 2 p.m. on a Thursday, I got a call from NYC. "Brian, can you be at our D.C. studio by 5:30 p.m. to be interviewed live on television by Neil Cavuto?"
Here's the results... My Blog & Me -- On National T.V.
Thank you for reading my blog post.If you like what you’ve read, then please:
Way to go, Brian! You just took that Millionaire Tax idea and made hay with it. I guess you've aware the numbers of Maryland millionaires is going down - don't know whether you got 'em all in VA or they moved to Delaware or Florida or ??? Why not... they can afford to live anywhere.
P.S. The next time you get one, please remember me for the listings referral.
Congratulations sir. This is great exposure from a big television station. Its great to hear from seasoned real estate professional like yourself the real estate market as opposed to someone who does not know anything about the business because he is not in the business. Have a great weekend. Great post.
That is so cool!!! Way to go Brian...this blogging thing has a lot of merit! I am still trying to get others on board, but they are not quite getting it yet! Congrats!
Great thing that you actually lived in another state. Do you think such a tactic would work on a local level within a state, with differences between municipalities on such things as their tax rates, education, etc.?
The media does their research much as we all do, so it's a natural that they would find the savvy agents on Google. Congratulations on your 15 minutes of fame (or should I say your first 15 minutes). BTW, you handled the questions very well. Did you know what they were going to be ahead of time?
DUDE>... was there an earthquake during your interview? LOL
Seriously, Brian, that is awesome. And you did a great job. When can I get your autograph or a picture with you? Wait, maybe I should just blow you off, since you blew off watching me speak at a rally... ;o) Again, congrats and nice job.
Brian - You show poise, which doesn't surprise me. Not bad, my man. I would like to see more and more legit Real Estate Professionals being contributors for any media outlets. It's the only way, in my opinion, to know the truth about the market... local or otherwise.
Hi Brian -- How cool is that? I used to live in Reston and MD also, and know what a major market that is, so congrats! I hope you sell several of those McLean or Great Falls mansions.
I have always loved reading your blog - and I love Neil - so how could I not watch your 3 plus minutes of fame - you looked great and spoke well... nicely done Congrats
Brian - Fantastic accomplishment. You just never know what blog you write is going to capture the attention of the public. You picked a unique and interesting topic that benefited not only you but others,
Hi Brian, When you commented on my post yesterday, I had no idea you were a National TV star! ( kidding) Congratulations, I think it is just wonderful. I liked the interview, and I think you did a great job!
