There sure were some sillier Taxes in Colonial days!

Lets take for example the English Hearth tax that forced folks to pay two shillings for every fire hearth in their home. This here unpopulat tax was in force from 1662 to 1689.
Now remember this was an era when folks cooked and keeped their homes warm, with the hearths in their homes.

Now how about this one.
The window tax in 1696. Homeowners and folks that occupied a home by renting it. Had to pay a tax of one shilling for the first window in the home.
This here tax increased for every additional window of the home.
This here tax forced the property owners and tenants to board up as many windows as they could, and newer buldings started to be designed with larger but with a lot fewer windows.
And this was going on in a era that there had to be windows since there was no such thing as electricity and folks used candles to light up the rooms of their home.
The shilling was worth about ten of our today dollars.

Hey Dale well friend you taught me something I didn't know. We have all had Taxes on our mind and some I hear about they are discussing adding are silly but those above really are amazing. Some of these taxes are nonsense.
