Thinking Your Kids are too Young to Remember a Holiday?

I was just thinking about that question. Gorgeous, lazy, wonderful summer days are just around the corner - and vacation/holiday plans are being made. Just the other day, I was talking to my brother and sister-in-law about them taking my niece (6) and nephew (9 ) to Disneyland. And their Answer was: "they're too young - they won't remember anything"....

Hmmm Funny thing is I've heard that before..........Childhood memories - are childhood memories........and they're definitely different then grown up memories but hey!

My son Chris went to Disneyland the first time when he was 2 and then again 4.........His first time in Hawaii was when he was 4.........His next time in Hawaii was 2 years ago.........when he was 21.

Now if I hadn't taken him when he was young he may never have had the opportunity until he was an adult. But you know what - he remembered - not everything but its amazing how many things he did remember! And Still remembers!

Memories are strange and mysterious....Not only did he have the 'experience' in the present.........but he relived and retold those memories for years afterwards........But do you know what the greatest Gift those holidays brought?

My Memories! There is nothing like seeing Magic through the eyes of a child! There is nothing like the Wonder of a Child experiencing Fun and Joy - they connect us to that child Within......and those memories live forever more............And THOSE Memories are Priceless!

Oh you are so correct. All the places a child goes, the things they touch and play with are all memory making events and shape their lives for years to come!

Liz, so agree with you! I remember quite a lot from my early childhood. 6 is definitely not too young to remember. My memory goes back to at least being 2 (if not earlier). I can recall quite a lot of my earlier years. All these memories enrich our lives and make who we are today. :)

I so love it when those little faces of mine turn to me and say, "remember ...."

It tells me that it did matter!

Sheila - it all counts - even when you least expect it!

If you want the kids along, then that will make your memories better. I am sure experiences have very ingraining effects on levels far deeper than we can even begin to comprehend. Bring them!

Did you bring the stroller? Score! Right to the front of every line! LOL! The pictures are great =)

I ask my daughter what she remembers. Some of the stuff she remembers surprises me than there are other things I expect her to remember and she does not.

It's never too young for a great and fun experience. You just never know what will make a lasting impression with a child.

Memories are wear it is at Liz and I love building these collages.

Lisa - hey I don't remember getting to go to the front of the line with a stroller! now a wheelchair maybe! :-)

Jane - yep my baby is all grown up - and my youngest graduated last night...............uh oh who is R>H>?

Irene -so very true! I just have to think about some of the Weird things that impacted me from my childhood!
