A Day At Fulton Park - Waterbury CT

Lewis Fulton Memorial Park

The Lewis Fulton Memorial Park, which sits nestled between the Crownbrook, Upper Fulton Park and Overlook neighborhoods of Waterbury, is the largest of the city's major parks. Occupying nearly 70 acres, Fulton Park encompasses two large ponds, a babbling brook that runs between them, playground areas, scenic walkways, a poolhouse, basketball courts and a baseball field. Fulton Park is one of the most popular sites in the city for taking wedding photos on a clear sunny day. There is a 7-11 24 hour convenience store located across from the northern pond and a recently (within the last 3 years) opened pizzaria, Park Pizza, provides excellent pizza and other hot deli items for those famished by a walk in Fulton Park.

Dear Mr. Walton,

Thank you for posting your photos of Fulton Park.  I grew up on Hill Street in the 1960's and used to go to Fulton Park for swimming in the summer, ice skating in the winter, and baseball games after school.  It was a lovely dose of nostalgia.

Thanks again!

what happened to the beautiful park i grew up with? i took my children to see the park that i had spent my childhood days in and i was just embarassed. the pond looks terrible the walkways around the ponds are all broken up and forget about the playscape, its all boared up. Garbage is everywhere. the spinkler, where my brother and i kept cool in the summer is destroyed. why have you let the once beautiful park go down hill. i can only hope that one day it will get cleaned up so my children can i can enjoy what i remember it once to be.

Lisa,

I totally understand your frustration at seeing parts of the park in seeming decline, but I can tell you that as a member of the neighborhood association most directly connected with the park, we are doing everything that we can to get Fulton Park restored to its former glory.

William - my boys had a baseball game today at Fulton Park.  I googled it to get directions and of course stumbled upon your post.  [It's funny, my husband also googled it and asked me "why is Active Rain showing up??"]

I thought it was an absolutely beautiful park .... one I'm looking forward to visiting again ..... I hope you're doing well!

Hello Mr. Walton, you know me from your 1st period history class.  I was wondereing what could be done to have matinence in the park kept up.  The sprinkler hasen't worked in years, the buildings aroung the park, such as the green house are from what I hear filled with mold and anamal fecies.  The side walks are craked and have spray paint on them, and the smaller walkways that are more hidden in the trees in the shade are filled with trash and broken, making it dangerous to walk.  The parks natural beauty is covered in empty chip bags and there are drug deals at night.  What can be done to help the park because one day I want to bring my little brother to Fulton park and have him enjoy the swings and the pond, instead of asking me why there is so much garbage everywhere?
