This past weekend, the City of San Antonio and the San Antonio River Authority opened up a new portion of the Riverwalk. The San Antonio Riverwalk has always been one of my favorite places in San Antonio. Littered with great restaurants, shopping, hotels and entertainment...the Riverwalk is a spot that has something for everyone!
Another great attraction to the Riverwalk is the River Barges. The open water rides are great for a short trip on the river where guides will give you some short history on the various attractions along the banks of the river. If you have more time, the barges are also available for dinner cruises. This is a great idea for locals and tourists alike you will walk away with a unique dining experience and a fully belly!
Two years and 6.5 million dollars ago, the city began an expansion project that extends the Riverwalk to the Pearl Brewery. There was, however, one significant snag. The significant elevation difference between the original section of the Riverwalk and the desired new section. The city engineers decided to use a Lock and Dam system to combat the problem. While this is a solution to a problem, I think it will also be a big draw for additional visitors! If you are coming to visit San Antonio, be sure to put a river tour on your list of things to do!
