This is the fourth and final part of a series of four posts on the Beartooth Scenic Byway.  If you want to see the first post, click on the following link: Highway to Heaven - Don't Pass this Up! (if you follow the links in the first three posts, you will get back to here).

Not only have I seen some beautiful vegetation, flowers and views along the 57 miles from Red Lodge to Cooke City on the Beartooth Highway but I also ran across a couple of unexpected animal appearances.

The first was by the following marmot standing on the edge of a rock cliff.

The second, even more fascinating to watch, was the following red fox trying to catch his prey underneath the snow.

This completes the little bit of history and some of the magnificent views encountered in my most recent drive on the Beartooth Pass.  Stay tuned for the next series of posts which will be on the Yellowstone National Park!

Hi Gerry, I love the fox and the marmot! Did you know that the marmot was also called a whistle pig? I didn't until my friend Cheryl Marantino told me. You have an awesome blog about Red Lodge and the surrounding area, great job Gerry, just keep those pics coming.

Gerry, Bear Tooth Pass sounds so like Montana. You must carry a camera everywhere you go!

Mary,

I learned something new today thanks to you.  I will also give credit to Cheryl Marantino whose posts I also enjoy reading.  I had not heard of whistle pig before even if I had photograph many of them.   Thank you for all the compliments and for being a regular visitor to my posts.

Paul,

Beartooth Pass is part of Montana and Wyoming.  I agree that a camera is very handy to have in Montana.  My hobby of photography has grown in leaps and bounds and taken a whole new life since I have been living in Red Lodge.

Debi,

I figured you also love critter pics from your blog.  Thank you for the positive feedback.   I hope you will enjoy the Yellowstone series as much as you enjoyed the tour of the Beartooth Pass or perhaps even more.

Sharon,

You are welcome.  I am grateful for the natual beauty I encounter on a regular basis in and around Red Lodge.   There are lots of beautiful photo opportunities everywhere I travel in my area as you probably guessed from my blog.
