The following photo was taken on May 25, 2009 at Yellowstone National Park at the Midway Geyser Basin.

Grand Prismatic Spring, Yellowstone National Park

The Grand Prismatic Spring is Yellowstone's largest hot spring at 370 feet diameter and 121 feet deep. The colors of this hot spring are simply spectacular!  The name describes it well as "prismatic" means brilliantly colored.

If you like what you see, you will want to come back and visit my upcoming series of posts on Yellowstone National Park.  Yellowstone is a must-see if you are in the Red Lodge area.  The North-East entrance of Yellowstone National Park is only 69 miles from Red Lodge via the scenic Beartooth Pass.

Yellowstone in late May.  Wow!  That takes some endurance.  Yellowstone is cold in late may.

I love that place.  I love that place.

However, we plan our camping trips in late June, early July. Still ice on the picnic table in the a.m.

I love that place.

I also love Cutthroat Trout.

Lenn,

It was actually more hot and cold on that day although I will admit that when the sun was hinding behing the clouds, I was quick to put on an additional long sleave shirt.  I love that place too.  Thank you for the comments.  I bought a season pass and I am looking forward to going back in late June.  It's is a wonderful place to visit, to go fishing, to hike, to go camping and to take some great photos!

Kevin,

This is one place that everyone should visit in their lifetime.  We are lucky to have such a beautiful National Park in our country.

Charles,

There sure is plenty of wild beauty to admire.  The geysers and thermal features add to the "another planet" effect.

 Ed,

You are welcome.  A great and unique landscape!

Gerry - terrific shot here! I have been to the Yellowstone several times - each time I am always amazed at how beautiful it is, and diverse.  There are so many parts of the park to see, thanks for sharing this one today!

Gerry - What a stunning picture.  At first I thought it might be Alaska, but I see that it is Yellowstone.  I need to visit there one day.

Mary,

You are very welcome.  it is a pleasure to share some of the beauty but no matter how many photos I post, nothing can compare the feeling to be there in person.

Sharon,

I am glad I was able to help you reach that conclusion.   Thanks for the positive comment.

Myrl,

Thank you,  Please do make sure to visit the Park in the near future.  It you think this photo is stunning, wait to see the different parts of this beautiful place.
