If you leave a comment, Jim will visit your blog and leave a comment. This has been my year to see the strutting peacocks at the San Diego Zoo. I've been going at least once a year since I was about 12, but I had never seen the peacocks in full display. This year I've been to the Zoo three times, and all three times I've been privileged to see peacocks putting on a show.

Last week was just supposed to be a quick one-hour trip to the Zoo to see the new Elephant Odyssey that opened at a cost of $45 million. What recession?

Elephant Odyssey covers almost eight acres and has more than just elephants, which will be for future posts. The peacocks, though, tend to hang around the front entrance since that's where most of the people are, and, of course, people means food.

Following are six pictures of the same peacock, which started off up on top of the building before flying down to put on a show for us.

Jim, hey we have those peacocks here at the Denver zoo too. Maybe they are cousins LOL. I need to take my boys to the zoo soon. It's been a while (read - I work too much). ~Rita

Jim - The first time I heard a peacock scream it scared the hell out of me.

Peacocks are cool, but territorial like roosters.  I know, I've been chased.

They are beautiful birds, when I was a kid we had to pass a house that had a beautiful peacock in its yard every day.

Hey, Russ - I could have stayed the rest of the day and watched them. I find them so interesting and beautiful.

Hey, Maria - The pictures in may were taken at 640x480 one megapixel resolution. For the last two weeks we've been taking pictures at maximum resolution, 6.2 megapixels. Using an HP Photosmart M547. We wanted to see what the difference was. Little to no difference when the pictures are uploaded to ActiveRain and letting ActiveRain decrease the size to 400 pixels wide. One can take drab pictures to a program like PhotoPaint or Photoshop and brighten them up and do other interesting things to them.

Hey, Eric - I wonder why that is. LOL

Hey, Rita - Remember to schedule time with your family. Establish your goals in a five-year plan, break that plan down into years, months, weeks, days, and hours, and then work those days and hours persistently and consistently. You'll find that you have time for family, and your weeks, months, and years will fall naturally into place.

Hey, Robert - I had never heard a peacock squawk until April. I was standing about five feet from one when it let out the two loudest honks you've ever heard. I thought I had accidentally stepped on it or something.

Hey, Jack - I read that they are territorial, and I suspect that the ones at the Zoo have their territories, but they don't seem to mind when humans walk right up to them to get a picture.

Hey, Tony and Darcy - I have a friend which about sixteen acres of land out in the boondocks. He has about 15 peacocks on his land that were set free from the East County Zoo many decades ago when it couldn't compete with the San Diego Zoo. He tells us how much noise they make on the roof at night when they are trying to find a roosting spot, as well as the mess they make on his roof. He's 87 now, so occasionally there's a group of us who go out to help him clean up his property.

Hey, Bob & Carolin - Thanks for stopping by. I'll be over in the not-to-distant future to see what you've been up to.

To all - Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your time, and I'll be over soon to visit you in your blog. I'm in about a 13-day lag right now, endeavoring to get that down to seven days or less.

Hey Jim, The peacocks make good zoo ambassadors and welcoming committee.

They are so beautiful. When I lived in South Miami we had Peacocks on our street. While they were beautiful to look at they are VERY noisy!! We all had mixed feelings when we saw them.

Happy Thursday!!

In San Pedro, just across the Vincent Thomas Bridge from our office in Long Beach, there's a flock of wild peacocks that actually roam around in this one neighborhood. My boss just ran into them while out doing a BPO!

Hey, Dan - They do make good ambassadors. Unfortunately, they always seem to be around more at closing time, leaving very little time for everyone to actually enjoy them.

Hey, Lori - I understand the mixed feelings. After hearing them honk and squawk at the Zoo, I'm not sure I would want them roosting on the roof of my house.

Hey, Matt and Betina - I do like the quality of the pictures taken at higher resolution with this camera. We used to use one megapixel, but we've been using 6.2 megapixels for the last few weeks to see what difference there is. The higher resolution seem to have better color.

Hey, David - I have heard about the wild ones over in Rancho Palo Verdes. Is that close to San Pedro?

Our neighbor has peacocks and hens. While they are absolutely beautiful creatures, their cries are terrifying. They sound like a woman screaming
