Take advantage of every opportunity

By
Real Estate Agent with Long & Foster

I know most people hate desk duty. I am not too different than those people, but I dont mind it too much. Most incoming calls are just forwarding to other agents voicemail or giving out a phone number. Two weeks ago I recieved a call on the duty desk, it was someone calling in about a listing. After answering a few questions about the listing, it was obvious that the house didnt meet their needs. I asked if I could send them some other listings through email. They told me they didnt have internet access and didnt want to give out personal information. I told them that I understood and I am not a high pressure salesman. I offered to snail mail them listings that fit their criteria and if they didnt want to they never had to call me and I would never contact them. They agreed and gave me their address. Some agents that I told the story too told me I was wasting my time, I agreed but I still sent the listings. A few days later I recieved a phone call asking to show a listing. Since that time we have looked at several properties and it looks like we could definetly be heading towards a deal. Most of the time doing this would have been a waste of time, but you never know. Dont give up and take advantage of opportunities even if you dont know they are opportunities. Good Luck out there!

I too was on duty today.  I had one gentleman drop in to talk about our town and what was available.  At the end of our discussion, it was agreed that I would list his current home and we've an appointment to tour some property in my town over the weekend.  A successful 2 hours of duty time!

A fluke or what? I agree that one needs to  take advantage of every situation though. I take my share but it is a hit and miss.

Aaron - Since I work mostly from home office desk duty is something I do on occasion but not on a regular basis.

Aaron, An agent with no patience would've given up, who does snail mail anymore?  You did and it paid off.  Good job!!

Aaron - Good luck with these clients.  I think your no pressure sales approach worked in your favor this time, and hopefully it will end up in a sale for you and your clients.
