Promotional Products - Effective or Flushed Cash ????

By
Real Estate Agent with Bergen County, NJ - RE/MAX Real Estate Limited

With everyone watching their pennies these days, I talk to more Realtors who are cutting back on their marketing dollars, advertising and promotional products.

Personally I have tried to bite the bullet and keep the promotional items out there to keep my name in front of leads and potential clients.

The question becomes, if you are going to spend the marketing dollars, what are you going to spend them on ?

Many promotional products are not for everyone, and many products do not fit the personality of certain Realtors.

So what items can you share that have been effective for you in keeping your name in front of potential clients ?

For me - I use all of the following amongst some other seasonal items.

First - the standard pens !

... these continue to be a favorite of my my clients, and even my other service partners like attorneys have these in their conference room to give to clients to sign their closing documents !

Next, I always send calendars and particularly Football schedules !

We have 2 football teams in the NY/NJ area so I cover both bases by having a schedule with both teams schedules ! ... these are magnets and they love these !

My latest product is the handy Letter Opener !

... I just gave a bunch of these out last week, and already saw some on some service partners desks when I stopped by this week. I think my new homeowners will like them too, as it will make opening up all those bills a little easier with my smiling face looking back at them !!!!LOL !

These are a few things I use, but you can get more elaborate if you like.

We just received this invitation to a grand opening of a new reception hall in our area, and they sent out these promoyional invitations in the mail to about 1000 invitees !

... very classy, with a key to the new Grand Ball room ! ... impressive !

So what products have been effective for you ? ... we can all help each other by sharing some great ideas :o)

...oh lastly, I am ordering some T-shirts next week ... they can package them in almost any shape you like ....

.... I'm considering this design ...

... yes folks, this IS  a T-Shirt !!!!!!!

.... think I could pull off a product like this T-Shirt ??????!!!!!

Hi Sheldon,

The only promo thing I've done so far is a magnet thingy.....at Office Depot I bought 25 of the house-shaped magnets and put my business card on them.....I only give them out to customers I work with......really cool going into their homes and seeing them on their fridges.

Love the pen idea!!  What supplier do you use?

Oh Sheldon, I love the letter opener, we don't receive much of those promotional items here in Manhattan New York, one agent always send us magnet calendar, but i always cut her face out and then use the magnet! HAHAH... But then again, she is less of a looker than yourself!

I use the mag calenders and the magnetized letter opener with my business card. I guess when your the top banana in real estate no other shape will do for your t-shirt promo. Good luck with that!

Speaking as a recipient...I love free pens and I have a chip clip and two letter openers that I use daily...I don't keep magnets that are sent to me (I have stainless, and wouldn't clutter up my refrigerator anyways).  I love the shopping bag idea.

Sheldon,

Have you continued to produce in the right guidelines I set up for you?  Hummm....

I had to go back to the end of February to remember.   Lol.

Are You Achieving a Good Balance Between Your Blogging and Commenting Activities on AR?

At the time (on February 27, 2009) you had a ratio of 57.7% and close to 40,000 points.

And as of today (June 7, 2009), your ratio is 58.5%.   With or without bananas as antlers on your head, you are still very much balanced (you probably know that most of us here on AR love you with bananas but you have the same number of bananas on each side of your head so you always find a way to achieve balance, lol).   But most amazing of them all, is that you are at 99,000 points (with 2 dozen of featured posts) and you are closing in on the 100,000 points milestone!   Now, how do you achieve 60,000 points in a little over 3 months is simply amazing!   And on top of that, you are managing to balance your husband and daddy duties (especially with the addition of Preston) and doing lots of closings and managing to respond to every single comment on your posts and making new friends and prospective clients on a daily basis.   I am not sure if you are getting sufficient sleep (perhaps you do fine on a few cat naps per day) but there is no stopping the power and determination of this very special agent!   My hat's off to you!  Thanks to AR, your incredible achievements are noticed even in very small towns such as Red Lodge (population 2,400), Montana.

Hi Sheldon~ The first thing I think of now when I see the bananas is Anna Banana from here!  I like Rita's idea of the reusable grocery bags the best because people will reuse them, carry them around and advertise for you and because they promote being "green"....  Still laughing at Greg, he is just too crazy!

Sharon ! - lol...my clients love receiving those things to !!

Bob ... I'm everywhere my friend ;o) HAHAHAHHAH

Gerry ! - My favorite comment by far in weeks !!!!! I love you breakdowns as they always remind me to stay balanced in all that I do, and it makes me feel great to be reminded that I'm doing alright in that department. I have to thank A\R for that platform to perform, and yes, of course, the amzing new friends I have on here and make every day. I truly appreciate you taking the time to chart those results for me Gerry ! You're the best !

Vickie ! Yup I love those bags too, and already picked up some from ShopRite this weekend. Not my branding, but I liked the idea for giveaways anyway ! ...and yes, Greg does make me chuckle too !!!

I think you should go with the banana-head.

I used to always send the magnetic calendars. I know people liked them because they sent me the renewal requests every year. But I don't believe they actually got me anymore business. I am a firm believer in bulk mailings on a consistent basis. But I cut this expense from my budget when the market slowed down. Now I rely on my husband, who is the president of our HOA... he hands out cards for me =)  My friends and family... I was born and raised right here, and all my web ventures. I got another listing today, because my client's daughter (who is a Realtor in Clearwater) found my web site and was impressed by it. So my marketing is now limited to all things that are free.

Sheldon,

First and most important, YOU could DEFINITELY pull off the bannana head tshirt.

Second, I like the first three items you mention.  Pens are ALWAYS handy and Calendars have a shelf life front and center in the most important room of the house- th e kitchen.

Also coloring pages for kids are good too, 'cause once little Johnny colors them they go on the fridge with your brand stamped right on 'em.

Sheldon,

This year we decided to do the recycled bag.

So you can guess everyone near me in the grocery store gets one, the mailman, anyone that stops by the office and YES, our clients!

We have gotten a pretty good response on them.

Yesterday I went to a business meeting and one of the guys in the meeting was using the bag to bring in documents that he needed for the meeting....very nice indeed!

p.s. love the banana shirt!

Sheldon:  I've missed your charm and wit during my AR hiatus.  Like the pens as they have a tendency to find multiple users.  And yes, you can definitely pull off that t-shirt.
