Respectfully to the White House

I am a wife, mother, tax payer and concerned citizen..working on commission.  There is a good chance I might have to work a second job.  In Daytona Beach there were only 339 closed transactions for the month of May..I wonder just how many were short sales and foreclosures...with over 1200 REALTORS...there are those that will go hungry or work harder and work a second job and more than likely take a job away from sole provider...or a minimum wage earner.

I've never worked harder in my life to produce a dollar...to feed my family...to maintain...to live.    I am not here to gripe and am willing to work hard but I would like my voice heard as I experience everyday first hand the trauma...the shame...and the unknown of those suffering financially...with job loss...with a sick loved one..experiencing a short sale or losing the roof over their head.

Bad credit won't help them...because a bank won't help them. You feel that by loaning $689.8 billion to 592 institutions..this will help..but where exactly is this money going but more importantly how are these funds being used to benefit the economy..to help the people?

I have tried to work with people who attempted to get loan modifications but because they are late or have a type of loan that no longer exists today...they do not qualify!  They feel powerless...some are hungry and some on their way to be homeless.but as a REALTOR I can only do so much but the government can do more.

The last short sale I did took months to process and the one before we had to threaten to call CNN.  If banks would streamline their process..would be more efficient it seems to me they lack concern because the government stepped in. When these same bailout recipients do not abide by their own policies...do not follow their own time lines and at the end reduced my pay drastically.

My brother is a perfect example perfect credit worked hard all his life...then several tragic things happened to him beyond his control...several hurricanes in a span of 5 years which destroyed his house and the insurance company didn't cover a third of the cost.  His wife got sick and even with insurance the medication is through the roof. She has applied for disability but a lawyer will be needed..and where is he supposed to get these funds?  His wife was denied...and its clear she can no longer work...but the red tape..and time it takes to process disability has taken a toll on his wallet.

My brother tried everything he could to stay current but slowly started feeling the choke...so he worked a side job to stay current on his mortgage..2 jobs, a sick wife and repairing his home..he didn't want to walk away but if he continued the route he was going ...it would have killed him...he got sick himself and the best thing for him was to move.

He found a perfect solution and kept his mortgage current and decided to rent his house and relocate to Alabama..little did he know after being in Alabama for 3 months he would not be working today. The tenant that was supposed to move into his house...never moved in...because they were unemployed and are still unemployed today.  Now the house sits because he can't get a loan modification and he can't pay his bills.  Sucks for him and his wife..my family and his neighbors.  Everyone suffers..everyone pays!

What about the people who can't keep food on their table?  Or lost their jobs? These are the people I am talking about...not the frivolous..but the sick...the unemployed. the minimum wage earners and the uneducated.  We as a country must invest in people rather than establishments because Establishments change and establishments go under.  We can survive as a society without establishments but people should matter first and foremost... we need people as a society!

When I think there are people out there trying to survive on minimum wage or one salary..how can the U.S. government feel good about lending this ridiculous amount of money to Establishments.  As wages should increase every year one thing is guaranteed we as the taxpayer will be paying more taxes every single year and probably the rest of our lives.  For some employees they have taken pay cuts..lost benefits and will not see a pay increase for a very long time.

We say retirement age is 65 but really truly do you think people will and can actually retire and will they have enough money to live?  Please no more bailouts to establishments...its we the people and not establishments...remember..... we the people put their faith in you..all of you!

Sincerely,

Midori Miller

Bailout the People and not Establishments!

President Obama is committed to creating the most open and accessible administration in American history.

While some may think this is not your fight in truth it is everyone...its impacting...you...me and many others.  With empty houses...property values....and more broken dreams, uncooperative lenders, ridiculous time lines and the excessive cost to taxpayers today, tomorrow and the future.

Sometimes all it takes...is that one extra voice...

Midory,

I am so sorry to read this, and I am so sorry for your brother. I met him briefly in Orlando. Look, if you, a trainer, and a seasoned professional, is worrying about putting food on the table, just imagine how many other agents and just people in the area, who do not know what they would do tomorrow.

At the same time I am coming from the country where there was a huge importance what the government would do for you. I do not believe we will hear anything and we will get anything from the government. I also do not believe n waiting till the next elections. The speed with which the current administration is wasting money will put us all in misery for years to come, if we wait too long. Wasted money is not going to come back, even if there is another administration,

Our crisis now has little to do with the wasted money. Our increased taxes (and there will be a lot of that directly and indirectly) will not make even a dent in that huge debt we ALREADY have accumulated.

Begging the government is of no use. History has so many examples. We really need change. And we need to demand it and to stop wasting the money of this and future generations. We are not going to see it.

Midori, I am so sorry to hear of your brother's troubles and his wife's illness. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thank you for speaking up. This country needs to pay attention to the people and stop allowing the banks to do as they please.

Good post, but do you think the new program... FAP (Foreclosure Alternative) will help any? At least it is attempting to standardize the process and offer some option.  (Its still new so we are not sure which banks have jumped on board or how many homeowners/borrowers it will help.  The real sadness is that people have to leave their homes - no matter what definition is given (Foreclosure, Short Sale, Deed in Lieu of...) it doesn't matter much if they lose their home in the process.

Midori,

I'm a single father raising the most beautiful 10-year old daughter in the world. We live in a town that, two years ago, had median real estate prices in the $300-400k range. You can now buy ANYTHING you want here for $105,000. Our local newspaper has three new sections a week, ALL completely filled with Notice of Default or Trustee's Sale publishings.

Welcome to California.

$24 Billion dollars in debt. Our governor is now cutting welfare (yes, you read that correctly). He's taking medical aide to poor children away (yes, you read that correctly). He's letting teachers, firefighters, police officers and God knows who else go on the chopping block by the thousands. We're releasing criminals by the tens of thousands because we can no longer afford to house them. Yet, we're spending two billion dollars on two medical facilities (one in Northern California and one in Southern California) to provide a higher level of care for the remaining prisoners in our state.

My logical mind can't make any sense of the decisions being made at both the state and federal levels.

It honestly scares the daylights out of me to think where the crime rate is headed. I personally wouldn't use the ATM machine even in broad daylight! We're already seeing a surge in liquor store and convenience store robberies...and I'm sure it's just a matter of time before people leaving the grocery store are held up at gunpoint.

But it may not be the typical robber.

It's likely going to be the middle class, formerly law-abiding citizen. A father of four who hasn't worked in months, who's lost his home to foreclosure. Someone who's burned through his entire retirement and savings. Someone whose entire stock portfolio has been reduced to rubble.

He'll be the one apologizing to you as he asks for your cash. "I'm sorry I have to rob you, but my children haven't eaten since Sunday. We're living in our car, and my wife can no longer afford the insulin for her diabetes."

The media seems to avoid talking about the inevitable surge in crime as this "late, great country" attempts to feed its hungry and care for its sick. A country who watches as the elderly are losing their homes and unable to pay for their medications. A country who invests hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars in companies who can't account for where most (if any) of it went.

I'm usually a very positive person...and can find the silver lining in almost everything. But this situation is already totally out of control. We just haven't seen all of the effects yet. Anarchy wasn't the world I thought my daughter would inherit. And yet, the next 20 years of her life don't hold the same hope, the same promise, nor the same freedoms as my last 20 years have.

For that, my dear sweet Madalinn...I'm so very sorry.

I'm positive Obama will fix everything.  After all, didn't he promise to?  Isn't that what got him elected?  Oh, wait, yes, he's a politician.

Good luck with that.  Call me jaded, but I'm at a point in my life where I see them all as liars who care about one thing and one thing only: "what's in it for them."

Obama has fixed nothing.

The only "fix" that has really helped is the $8000 tax credit.  Obama had little to do with it.  It was proposed by a congressman that used to be a REALTOR.  Maybe he still is one.  He certainly thinks like one.

Obama has spent even more money than Bush.  His rush to throw money -- at every special interest that supported him in the last election and every interest group that he hopes will support him in the next -- is the reason interest rates are spiking.

When the government borrows it takes money out of the private sector putting pressure on the price of money -- interest rates.

A dose of realism for folks who still have their head in the sand waiting for the silver lining.

We've got a lot of dark days before that silver lining shines.

I've been very negative about the economy since the government began giving our money to the Wall Street Gangs that caused the mess.  That was absolutely the wrong thing to do.  They, and the politicians who enabled them should have been exposed.  Many tried, but lies and deception are the name of the game on The Hill.  He who lobbies the best gets the most of our tax money.

Save what you have and pay no attention when the politicians encourage the citizens to spend.  The GDP is going to suffer severally with the loss of the spending power of families and individuals who have been victims of the mortgage mess.

Funny thing, the politicians, economists and the administration haven't noticed that. . . .  yet.

There are no easy fixes...so sorry to learn of your brother's issues. I guess I have no answers either except to say that I guess realistically it has to be both ways...if you bail out employers...(not just lenders) you can help create employment which will bail out the people.  Things slid too far before anyone put their foot out to stop the train...at least recession is not depression and that's a good thing...Know that our thoughts are with your brother and his family.

Midori:  This environment is so frustrating.  My husband and I are also struggling to put food on the table and keep the lights on even though my PER UNIT escrow and sold volume is through the roof!  People here in the valley are all struggling.  Our unemployment rate has doubled (and in double digits) since last year.

I have seen subdivisions underwater so bad that they were 70's pricing, yes 70's!  People have to move to find unemployment and then they need to make tough choices on what to do with their home too.

The situation we are in is so deep that I cannot see the light at the end of the tunnel!  Your brother is not alone , these same thing is happening all across the country!

Midori - A very well written post, it exemplifies the hardship that many Americans are experiencing.

The biggest problem I see is that everyone expects Obama to "SAVE" us , and it can not be done in four years. The bank bail-outs may have been done with good intentions , but unfortunately that is where it has stopped. Until it starts to affect the fat cats directly things will not change.

The people will have to rally together and take it too the streets to create and change in the country.

Stay postitive and keep looking forward , before you know it you will be on the other side of the darkness

Just read that 62% of bankruptcies are medically related. I speak from experience how expensive that is. We have an important opportunity to create reforms needed to put us on the clear path. None of us are smart enough to say utlimately what is right or wrong with things going on in Washington, Wall Street and the world. We can only hope for brilliance somewhere. Stay passionate, and stay involved. I wish good fortune on you and your family.

Midori, our home prices in Michigan in some area's are down to 1990 prices. Even in the good area's we are down to the 1998 prices.

Sellers are upside down.

Banks who got the money won't MODIFY loans, it is horrible.

We deal with it everyday. You finally get an offer and it doesn't appraise. I have stopped having people in Michigan try to modify as the banks WILL NOT DO IT.

So we go straight to listing as a short sale and sometimes they work and other times not.

Thank you for the gold star!!!!!!

Good Morning Everyone...

This is my letter to the white house...that I will be sending tomorrow...I urge all of you to send one June 5th....this is another one of my brothers..sorry I have 4. :)

My story is much bigger than this..but we won't get into it..instead I'll keep working harder and do what I have to do.....we are so not out of the woods...and neither are homeowners.  Our property value has dipped and just like so many...prices in the 90's.

I do not blame Obama he has many who work side by side with him..helping him to make the best decisions for the American People..maybe they should stand in our shoes one day..a week...a month.  I voted strategically..meaning trying to help to ensure a balanced government...you might want to think about that in our next election.

I guess my point is that the money could have been better spent with employment...with education..with tax credits to those that are really suffering.  Instead of condemning the poor..and believe me there are more than we could imagine...help them.

I do not expect government to bail me out...I do not expect goverment to fix things but what I expect is that when making decisions that will impact us for the rest of our lives to consider the average american...I'll say it again...the average american.

The homeless rate in Daytona is ridiculous we don't hear much about that...and as stated above..surely the crime rate will go up..when a good father has to feed his kids...

Lack of goverment assistance to those that need it can turn a good man into something that he would never dream to be.

We place value on banks...car companies and insurance companies but if the common folks cannot afford it will only happen again...more bailouts..more bancruptcies and fat cats getting fatter.

I believe in free enterprise but I believe in people.

We also have to think about our future and by taking funding away from schools..will only stop the growth of this country that many are so proud of..the white house needs to take a look at education and hard and offer to all.  Without educated people..we cannot advance..

Everyday is a miracle to me...and I see the beauty and have the appreciation for life...we just can't sit back and let things happen to us..with or without goverment we have to continue on...

Thanks everyone for the support but what would mean more..is you taking the time and sharing something with the white house..your views..your suggestions..and stories...

They claim they want to hear from us..so today and tomorrow...let them know...we can create change...but it takes more than one voice...

I so feel for your brother since I find many people in my area in the same situation when it comes to ridiculous healthcare costs causing financial devastation.  Its sad that this economic crisis has been coming for years, long before the present administration, and nothing was done to nip it in the bud.  Nobody was "watching the financial store" when this crisis was building in either party. I hope things turn around in the near future, but considering that it has taken years for this economic hole to be dug, its not likely we will climb out of it quickly.

The banks aren't loaning out the bailout funds; they can't wait to pay them back.

Why?

Because BHO and co are using it as leverage to make them capitulate to any demands.  Limit exec. salary, cancel advertising and community events, write off debt and let lower priority creditors skip you in bankrupcy.  With help like this, no wonder banks would rather shrink and survive than continue as part of the government.

TARP, troubled asset relief program, never did what it was passed as in law.

Midori - What a heartfelt excellent post about a tragic set of events.

I would like to spread the word about the help that can be found at www.livinglies.wordpress.com   Homeowners need to find attorneys that "get it" to fight the fraudulently securitized loans on their homes.  Unfortunately by the time the foreclosure has started there is no money left to fight a winnable battle against the pretender lenders.  Do yourself and people you care about a favor and explore the livinglies blog.  They have resources to help educate but do your due diligence.  Learn and verify.  It is only a matter of time before people wake up and understand what has happened.

Hi Midori,

Strong words, and driectly from a pain that a lot of people share. I feel very fortunate, but I too have family that is struggling. My sister in Arizona was laid off, and so was her husband. She is a teacher for hell sakes, and she was laid off because the first thing the government down their thought to cut was education. Her husband is a construction worker, like so many others, there just isn't anything to build. It hurts me to think how so many others are in the same situation, and the fear of a dreadful future for our kids. It's tough, and all we can do is work harder for our families, and pray for a better day.

While IMO Obama is like other politicians and does not seem to walk the talk, your brother's status quo is disheartening. It is people like him who suffer for the bailouts of Wall Street. Are the politicians including Obama listening? I highly doubt that they care which saddens me. It's people's lives being affected on a day to day basis.

In the Tampa Bay area many people are out of work. Some can barely afford to pay their rent or mortgage, FOOD, and/or health insurance.

Whenever I read another story of someone barely making it and not getting any bailouts while corporations are getting bailed out it is disheartening. For every man or woman who is struggling there is a family being affected. I know how it is and it is very disheartening that this is happening. Of course many politicians do not know how it feels. Thus an inherent problem. By the way that includes Obama.

In Hawai'i he was a child of privilege. The rest of us... well we are left to row our own boat after years of contributing to this country and/or to this world only to be left to drown while corporations are rescued. Sadly... the rest of us  do not get bailouts. Instead all we get is talk. (Talk is cheap.) Aloha, Lana

Hi Midori,

It is devastating what this economic downturn has done to so many.  The bailouts are there to keep it from getting MUCH worse.

Unfortunately there are no easy answers.

I wish you and your family all the best,

Hi Midori

This sounds like a terrible squeeze for your brother.  He is in my thoughts and prayers. This economy has devastated the lives of so many.  Many of us, myself included, are skating on the edge and could fall off a cliff at any time.  Like Broker Bryant I just try to get through my day and keep as many balls in the air as I can.  Like everyone else I need SOMETHING to happen and it had better be in the form of something GREEN.

Like Kevin I agree the situation would much, much worse if the bailouts were not there.  Allowing the banking system to collapse is not an option.  But the Obama Administraion has to put a heavy thumb on those that accepted bail out money and ensure that they do what they are SUPPOSED to do with that money.  Although the banking system didn't collapse - it is obviously NOT functioning properly.

Hi Midori,

I feel for you, your brother and family.  Reading your post was heartfelt, because anyone of us can be in the same situation. Recently, I had to take a short term contractual job to cover some unexpected expenses and everyday I think about tomorrow.  I know many families out there are wondering what will happen next, but at the same time, we needs to be fair-minded about the issues at hand.

I am in agreement that the funds provided to big establishments should have been used for greater purposes in helping homeowners, small business and people who will make a difference to our economy.  Like you, I oppose to using our tax dollars to help companies who doesn't need our help.  It is too soon to tell if what the present administration is doing will further damage an already devastated economy.

The problems did not start with the current administration, the bottom had already fallen out when they took over, it will take time for them to maneuver around to get us out of this mess.  It is always easier to blame the current administration for the inherited problems, after only being in office a little over 120 days (excuse my math).  Many people will be looking at the Obama administration as being the root cause of the economic problems for obvious reasons. Let's not forget that the previous big administration caused the problems we are facing today by allowing Wall Street to go amok, now the little man gets all the blame for trying to fix the problem. It's like history repeating itself all over again.

It toke two terms for the Bush administration to get us into this jam, and will take just as long to get out of it, either by the Obama administration or someone else.  See it for what it is!

Despite all the help they're getting the banks are NOT helping those who need it most.

Hi Midori:

Congrats on the Feature.

This post is well done.  Jim & Maria re-blogged it, as I read it on their blog earlier.

Seems that we are all working so very hard for a fraction of the money.

Midori, there are tougher days ahead.  The path that we are on is leading to unrealized difficulties... higher interest rates, higher private sector unemployment, inflation and massive tax increases.  We need to change directions, and as Jon said, four years on this path will be a hard thing to overcome.

Despite all of the celebrated transparency of this administration, they are at least os opaque as others.  They say nice things and then do something different.

But I'm optimistic for the future... we just need a few years of pain to start making changes...

Taking money from the ones that produce it to give to the ones that do not IS NOT the way to much of anything except socialism and bankruptcy for our country.

Government is THE PROBLEM, not the solution. Get out of the way and let the producers produce and keep more of what they produce otherwise why bother.

If anyone hasn't read that classic novel "Atlas Shrugged" by Ayn Rand now would be a good time; it's an eye opener.

Welcome to the Obamanomics. Before our next bailout to California I would rather see them try to sell the state to the Russians or Chinese. Because bailing out California will bankrupt this country for good.

Don't get me wrong I don't even know the area but I can tell by what its state government say sand tell that next to Our federal government it is the worst run place on earth.

They need to cut there welfare and all other programs that they have let the illegals abuse. Let California be an example to the rest of us what a sate can do to an entire government when ran amok.

Yikes, Midori!  This sounds really bleak!  And it's not likely to get better until all of those pesky underlying issues, like unemployment, start to resolve themselves.

Midori, This whole thing is so very frustrating and while I'm certainly not of the mindset that the government should "save" me, I do wonder why it is that the "establishments" are the ones getting enormous amounts of money and we're left to pay higher taxes, higher food and gas prices, etc.  And the more I have to deal with distressed real estate sales, the angrier I get.

Midori, Excellent Post - well said!  There are too many unhappy endings and it seems that Washington just doesn't care!  I didn't vote for Obama but I have prayed ever since he got elected!  I don't see a quick end to this mess.

Midori- Great post!

It would so much more economical to give every American a million dollars.  Saving the country BILLIONS.  Want to stimulate the economy seriously...that is the way to do it- more than 50% would begin spending it immediately. A small percentage would save it, and almost everyone would have the means to wipe out their debt- making the need for "Bail Outs" unneccesary.
