I'm sure somewhere down the line we have all felt like using this statement from time to time. Whether it's the self proclaimed genius that feels the necessity to point out how they would handle the delicate situation at hand, or the self righteous moron that thinks it's a good idea to point out the obvious. We live in a civilized society, and that's the only way I explain the existence of many of these people, because it's illegal for the rest of us to choke them to death so we can release the rage that they induce.

However, that's not exactly why I am writing this post. I am writing this post to discuss those that are all too quick to disregard advice from others. Sometimes we are too close to a situation to see clearly and the advice, thoughts, and opinions of those who are not involved can be an invaluable source of information. But, you have to be willing to listen to what others have to say.

Don't always assume that you know what's best, remember there are a lot of people out there who have been in your shoes before. Many of these people know the ends and outs of your job, your situation, and what you are trying to accomplish. They have been there and done that and some of them are even nice enough to share their experiences with you so you don't have to make the same mistakes that they once made. But again, you have to be willing to listen to what they have to offer. The best way to learn is from the mistakes of others, that way you don't have to make them yourself.

So, the next time someone starts to give you advice, think twice before you fly off the handle and assume that they are butting into your business. They may just be talking for the sake of tossing words out their mouths, but they may have something of great value to dispense upon you. There's no real harm in hearing them out to find out which way it will turn out. If it's of no use to you, then big deal, you can then run them off. However, if you run them off too soon you may miss out on an opportunity to improve yourself. And all you had to do was shut up and listen!

Oh how I should send this to an agent that I so wanted to have words with yesterday but I took the high road.

Over reacting, emotions high, being tired, grumpy and jumping to conclusions causes most of the misunderstandings. The drama and not being able to accept that others don't necessarily feel the same about a situation and that does not make them wrong is the key to getting along at the real estate daycare. Good post that shows we are human and not all Spock like logical or Vulcans.

We all have different perspective.  Maybe somebody else can contribute to your understanding of a situation that will help you ... or not ... at least listen.  For some reason they are compelled to tell you.  Whether it is to serve their ego, or to really help you - they are talking to you.  Listen.  Process the information, and do what you think is right afterwards.  Be sure to really listen to them - hear them, what they are saying.  At least they will feel better for you having listened and you will have made an ally.

Well JL, happens all the time.  I try to analyze their points and ask questions that lead to what the possible outcomes are.  Sometimes that leads to them seeing it my way, sometimes not.

Nannette- If you'd send away. The high road is usually the best to take.

Andrew- We are all human and it's easy to get frustrated, but most of the time it's best if we just listen to see what we may learn.

Jim- I agree completely. I always listen to what people have to say, even if I don't need or agree with the advice, at least I heard it and they got it off their chest.

Gabe- Debate can often change minds on both sides.

LISTEN- GREAT ADVICE.  Taking the high road - is a journey on to itself.

Hi JL-Everybody has an opinion. What we have to do is decide which opinions are worth putting into practice and which ones we just need to discard as something not best for us. Love the title. <SMILE>

Hey JL, believe it or not that is precisely why I like to bounce ideas off my husband. We think very differently and and in turn I gain another valuable perspective.

JL...if we would actually stop and listen to the entire comment, we may learn a thing or two!

JL --- I know that I like to give advice based on my experience --- it does not always work for the agent-owner, but most of the time, they are appreciative.

JL...

I know that there are a lot of times that I had listened to advice that was offered.

Some very sound advice JL.  I am one that can jump to conclusion too quickly. So before I have heard you out all the way, I will make up my mind that you are wrong. I can usually be convinced otherwise, but it takes me a little while to realize and open my mind.

Terri- Yes it is.

Sharon- It never hurts to listen before disregarding.

Cynthia- My wife loves to bounce ideas off of me as well, of course, she expects me to tell her that's she's right whether I agree or not.

Bill- We may indeed.

Richard- And we should my friend, thanks for the feature.

John- At one point in my life I was quick to jump to conclusions, but these days I am a lot more patient.
