I just wanted to reiterate - the idea of this group is not to create a dumping ground for your local interest video or listing video. This is for "face to face" communication and to share ideas and tips on vlogging. I will remove posts if deemed off-topic. I hope that everyone will record short videos for their posts and make this a sort of experimental playground and feedback spot for your vlogging ideas and concepts. If the post is about the topic, but does not contain video, the post will be weighed on a case by case basis.
I am also hoping to push the ActiveRain creative folks to somehow include an option to video comment. Perhaps if they see us generating enough interest it will get put into place (my guess is they've already considered it or are working on it - they're usually pretty forward thinking).
Please reblog in order to spread the word and get this group moving!

There has been so much talk this week about video blogging! I have been working on a video blog I did (an interview w/my father for dad's day). I will work on this.
Kristin - I noticed a bigger push towards video in the last few weeks (myself included). I thought it would be a great chance for a group of people to learn and share here at ActiveRain. Can't wait to see what you've got.
Good idea for a new group, Matt! I enjoy your vlogs and those of others, like Jason and his visit to the hamburger place with his kids. I'm not inclined to vlog but will drop by and view your group's vlogs.
Hi Matt, I think this is a great idea. Yes, AR is going to have to provide an HTML link on the comment post so we can embed our video back to you (versus a link).
I made a video tutorial on how to embed a WellcomeMat video into an AR blog post and it got me thinking...what about a new group on "how-to" video tutorials. I am a newbie at screen capture but finding it a fun learning experience. What do you think...worth me pursuing? (woops, maybe I should have checked to see if one already exists!?)
Okay...this looks cool and I have just started working on my first video for the upcoming contest sooooo...may as well join and see what happens. The face to face thing is different for me but I guess I need check it out, maybe I can add some of my favorite Fellini influences...
Shirley - Although you may not want to do video yourself, I think that actually makes you a valuable member of the group. You can watch the videos from a different perspective - that of an end user. When you shoot video, it's easy to watch and back and think that your video is genius, but you might have a different viewpoint. I hope you'll stick around and remain active in the comments (as always).
Mike - Leave it to you to slip some video in there! I wasn't aware they were using Ruby On Rails, so thanks for that bit of info. I knew it wouldn't be super simple for them to just add a plugin, but I figured they must have enough bright minds that could take something like the Seesmic WordPress plugin and reverse engineer it for their own uses.
Teri - I think one of the biggest problems for them opening up the HTML would the potential for any sort of malicious code being inserted into people's comments sections. That's probably their major concern. I do like the How-To Group and would guess there might already be one, but who says that should stop you! I've learned that ActiveRain members all travel in different groups. Although I follow many people and try to communicate with them, there is always someone I don't know. That someone might know you really well and have a circle of friends connected to them. Think of it like SOI - we might have some in people in common, but we will always know a few different people which is what allows us to pass the word.
Jason - Thanks for joining and thanks for the great post. I actually spent a bit of time losing half a blog post trying to embed something into my posts before I stumbled across your post. It was one I read early on and it helped me tremendously. Before that, if I wanted something embedded, I wrote the entire post in the HTML editor. Although I'm capable, it's not as much fun and always take a bit more time.
Russell - I think you'd do great with the face to face aspect. Just from your comments over the time I've know you, I know that you're the kind of guy who I could have a chat with, laugh a little, and learn something - all in the same conversation. I think that's what vlogs are all about. Combining the education with some personality - making it fun and interesting.
Matt- As usual, great idea ! I will be joining the group after writing this comment ! Also, thanks for the mention of us in your video ! And you are right, there is more of a buzz about video now than ever before. I was surprised that AR featured our post but I guess the timing of it all made sense. I am sooo glad we went to the Real Estate Bar camp as that inspired us to go to Best Buy right after it ended ! Those little flip video gadgets rock ! ~ Chris
Chris - Your post is what convinced me it needed to exist as a group. I'm thinking it will be a small group at first, but as more things are posted to it, more people will be tempted to give it a try. I'm thinking that it might help as well if there are some "topics." Perhaps by suggesting what to vlog about, it will encourage more people to give a shot. Plus, it could prove useful to many of us for the linking SEO. Say for instance the topic was "How to choose a Realtor®" and you and I both did vlogs about it...you went one route with the thought (for instance you discuss the trust factor of an agent/client relationship) and I went another (I spoke about the comfort factor in that relationship). Because we both spoke of the same topic from different angles, but most likely would agree with each other, there's an opportunity to say "hey readers, check out this take on the subject from a friend of mine, I agree with what he has to say and couldn't have said it better myself." Not we've got link SEO going around, better more complete information for our readers, and a chance for people to see that many of us actually work together to help teach and learn (I think the public should see that more often).
Frank - Ever notice how everyone hates the way they sound on tape/video/recording? That's me.
Matt - I love the idea ! I agree that this will slowly get bigger and bigger. I think we will be posting our second video tomorrow. Will just have to figure out how to embed it !
Chris - The embedding isn't too hard. I'd explain it now, but I have to run to a showing. Read Jason Crouch's post mentioned at the top of the post. It will definitely get you where you need to be. I'm going to be posting some new stuff to the group soon.
