Summer in the Rockies

It's the best time of year to live in Colorado Springs and I would like to share with you some of my favorite things about Colorado Springs in the summer time. I am a Colorado Native and proud of it. I have been living in the city of Colorado Springs for over 12 years and over time have discovered some pretty cool places to eat, play and chill out in the summer time so grab a cool glass of ice tea, sit back and enjoy my blog about the best places to see and be seen, to chill on a hot day, and overall just have fun. Enjoy!

Summertime in Colorado Springs means many things to many people but to me it means being outside and enjoying the many patios scattered around town. One of my favorite summer activities include catching a sky sox game. The Sky Sox are Colorado Springs' go to sports team when it comes to baseball. Tickets are cheap the dogs are hot and the beer is cold. There really is no better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than slathering on some sunscreen and hanging with a group of good friends while watching the local boys hit some runs. Better yet are Friday nights since they shoot off fireworks and man do I LOVE fireworks! Also Tuesdays are great for the bargain shopper in you because it only cost $2 to sit anywhere in the stands!

Like I said I love to sit on a nice patio and hang out. I have 2 favorite patios in town: The Ritz downtown because they have voodoo chicken and a great spot to do some serious people watching. Then there is Indigo Joes off powers where I like to go after a Sky Sox game. They have a fire pit and a large flat screen TV so hanging out on a patio is taken to the next level. Nothing beats Indigo Joes on a warm night when you want to watch a Rockies game on a big TV.

If sports isn't your thing and you are more into the outdoors may I suggest Helen Hunt Falls. This is a beautiful place to take out of towners or just take you dog for a nice easy hike to the top where the views are astounding paired with the sound of the cascading falls. I have been taking a hike to the top every year on the 4th of July for the past 3 years.

Come July it gets smoken' hot in Colorado Springs so to cool off I like to check out Cave of the Winds. The temperature is always in the 50s in the caves so I like to think of it as natural air-conditioning. If only we could all have a cave connected to your homes, we sure would save a lot of money in utility cost. Another cool place to chill out is the top of Pikes Peak. The only time in the year I can bare to go up there is July or August because even if its 90 degrees in Colorado Springs its still chilly at the top. Make sure to wear layers or at least bring a sweatshirt and certainly do not forget the camera because the top of the Peak offers some of the best views you will ever see!

Really my favorite summer activity of all time is going to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and feeding the giraffes. Oh how I love those cute tall animals!

Well I hope that you enjoyed my favorite things list. I am curious to hear what your favorite thing to do in the summer. Write your favorite summer activity in the comments below and make sure to tell us where you are from so that if ever I am in town I can check it out.
