Tips for Newbies and Some of Us Oldies

  This past week I learned that Active Rain has changed how their week runs --- the Active Rain week now runs   Monday through Sunday.  This was changed several weeks ago --- somehow, I missed the post about that one. Thank you, Bob Stewart for such a nice email concerning this topic. I really appreciated your attitude --- that of really caring about the AR member.

When I posted about being confused, there were several comments from people who did not know this either. Hence, my post for today.

This can be an important item to know if you are counting points.

For our newbies out there:
--- you only get points for 10 posts per week on your blog
--- each post earns you a basic 200 points
--- you earn an additional 25 points if you place your post in an Active Rain Channel
--- then as other Active Rainers comment on your post, additional points are added to your post.

  When I was doing some research, I came across a post that was giving advice to newbies on AR.  I am so sorry, but I cannot remember the name of the post or the author ( I think it was Bob Stewart)  --- I just tried to find it again and after 30 minutes of trying, did not find it.

Anyway, I learned in this post that each of us on Active Rain has a blog which is kind of like a diary.  Then when we write our articles and put them on AR, we are posting them which means that these are called "posts", not blogs.  "Duh"  --- I don't know where I have been, but I didn't know this.

So, I have been incorrectly using the words.   Maybe this post will help some others.

  What is "parking" on a site? I have had other Active Rainers "park" on my site. I did not know what they were talking about. So, I did some research and discovered Bob Stewart's post entitled No Parking on This Blog Post. After reading this post, I think I understand that we don't need to "park" anymore --- at the bottom of each post is a check box that says 'Notify me of new comments'.  Until I read Bob's post, I thought that box was just for me to be notified. 

If when you go to a blog to read some one's post and you want to be notified of other people's comments, you just check the box and you will be notified on your email of the additional comments.  Pretty cool, uh?
