I am in Nashville attending a high society black tie wedding for my niece. Overwhelmed may not be the strong enough word to tell you how kind people are in this city. I have been to 3 restaurants and I don't know if I have ever been treated so kindly before. This is my first visit here, and it won't be my last.
Mind you Austin Texas where I am from has extremely friendly people, but this is good ol' south true friendliness that I have only seen in Charlotte NC. I just went to an open house about a half hour ago and the developer of the project was at one of the townhomes. I introduced myself and he gave me an incredible tour of this $1.5mm townhome. Even though he knew I was a realtor from Austin, he said, "do you have some time"? I said sure....about an hour. So he said, "let's sit down in the parlor and chat about real estate".
So we this incredible conversation about how he built the townhomes....where he found the used bricks.....why he put 8 fireplaces in a townhome....etc.... The whole time I was thinking to myself, why would anyone spend this much time talking to someone that will never get him business? We spent about an hour talking. It is just true genuine kindness. It was a good kick in the pants for me to be a kinder, more gentle person. I need to work more on "it's not all about me".
I asked him why he put so much detail where he did not need to (remember the 8 fireplaces). He said that he wanted people to remember 50 years from now who built these masterpieces. He said that he wanted to make a contribution to the future and not merely try to make a profit.
So what is our contribution for the future.........
Hi Tim ~ That' so nice to hear. I've never been to Nashville but it sounds like I should add it to my list. I love living in New England but "nice" probably isn't the first word that comes to mind to describe us - ha! Not that we're not nice but I don't think it would be the first word.
