Liberty Memorial Top of Tower

The Liberty Memorial in Kansas City was started after World War I. Construction was delayed due to funding issues. World War II occurred and the memorial was still not finished. Eventually, the memorial was completed and now honors soldiers from all our wars.

The Liberty Memorial is now The National World War I Memorial for the United States. I highly recommend visiting the WWI Museum located beneath the Memorial. The kids will love it!

An impressive piece of architecture, the deck at the base of the obelisk offers magnificent views of the Union Station and downtown KC.

"In honor of those who served in the World War

In defense of liberty and our country."

When construction was first started on the Liberty Memorial, there had been only one World War; no one could imagine there would be yet another.

Thank you for serving.

Thank you for your sacrifice.

Maria, That's a great history of the Liberty Memorial.  I am originally from Wichita Kansas but have never heard of it.

I can't tell you how happy I am to have our son home safe and sound.  He is just now telling me all the times he came close to Mortars in Iraq.  Freedom is not FREE!!

Really! Wichita?

I'm so glad that he made it home safe. Maybe you and he can tour the Liberty Memorial together next time you come to KC. There's a museum in the basement. It's one of the few WWI memorials in our country. Union Station has some great restaurants for after. Or Crown Center - shopping & restaurants and sometimes music too.

Wow- that tower at the top is amazing! And thanks for standing at the base to offer perspective. It must be awesome in person.

Sarah, it is awesome in person. The stonework is absolutely amazing. The displays in the museum, on the lower level, are brought to life by the veterans who volunteer there as curators.
