In case you haven't heard, about 10,000 Edmond residents and businesses in North and Northwest Edmond, currently served by the Coffee Creek station, will be getting new zip codes, effective July 1.

According to an article I read in the Edmond Sun, the new ZIP codes - 73012 & 73025 - are necessary due to the growth our community continues to experience. These changes will also position the Edmond Post office to handle future growth.

Edmond postmaster Larry Chandler is cautioning everyone not to begin using those ZIP codes until the July 1 effective date and says that those affected should be receiving a letter of notification. Also, any mail addressed with the old ZIP will be recognized and forwarded for 12 months after implementation.

For many of us, change can be frustrating, but the continued growth in Edmond is a good thing. It's amazing to watch the changes that come along with that growth. It wasn't long ago that we had just one Post Office, one High School and one McDonalds in our "little town."
