Hey Rainers!

Do you work on Sundays? If not, why not?

I know a few agents who don't work on Sundays, and I can't figure out how they do it. I've never checked to see how much business I write on Sunday, but I do open houses on Sundays and they bring a lot of business my way.

Anyone out there who has been successful with this? I would love to hear from you and learn. It would be wonderful to relax and have a true day off! I would like to know:

Was it hard to make the change?

What did it do to/for your business?

Would you recommend taking Sunday off to others? If so, why?

Looking forward to your response!

Hey Dawn,

Work Sundays, rarely. Yet every now and then I make an exception. I've learned that most of what I do can normally be done during the week which is what I prefer. Yet if I have a listing with little activity, I'll do whatever I can to get people inside. As for showings on Sunday, no not normally.

Dawn, yes I think all realtors should take Sundays off. (then I can have more business^_^) But seriously, I will be showing tomorrow. Last year there were only 4 Sundays that I did not hold Open House. This year will be less because I'm showing more buyers on Sundays. (their schedule makes it so)

Paula Swayze just wrote a featured post somewhere along those lines.........yes i think they should take sundays off except for rare emergencies..........do opens on Saturdays - and be refreshed and able to taken on the week............value your family time -it'll make you a better realtor! :-)

Hey Lynda! I agree - most items can be handled during the week. But opens on Saturday aren't the best in our market, and I still do get a lot of buyers at opens. And many people have such packed weeks, that they only have Sunday open - and they buy!

Maria, LOL - and my point too - will I be giving other agents my business if I take Sundays off?

Liz, I have this as one of my business goals for this year. But tomorrow I am writing an offer and taking a buyer out - the only times these clients are available! I can do it occasionally, but then I feel I am losing business, so I go back to it.

Dawn, Monday is usually MY day off because I'm working Saturday AND Sunday! It is a convenient day for my clients to see property and for me to hold Open Houses. But I do believe there should be at least one day a week reserved only for personal affairs.

You need a GED to follow me on twitter? No wonder no one can follow me!!! I will have to check on that or I will never have more followers! I'm stuck at 2001 until I get about 1850 followers, but what is that GED about? Weird!! Thanks for telling me!

Cheryl, I used to do "Pajama Mondays" so named for staying in my PJs so I would be forced to stay home and take a break...but I am too busy clearing up the weekend loose ends now.

I work on all days that end in "Y".

That said, this is not really a job for me, but a lifestyle that I have a great passion for.

Why would I ever want to take a day off from something I love so much?

Dawn....this is the 2nd post I've seen since I wrote one last week about it.  Taking Sundays or whatever day off is fine by me........as long as the clients are covered by  someone you trust will take as good of care of them as you.

Harrison, I do too, and I feel that passion, but I think I need a day off that I know is a day off!

Tony & Darcy, If I try not to, I still do. My one friend's husband laughs when she says she doesn't work on Sundays, because she still answers her phone and is on the computer...

Hi Anna, I searched and your post didn't come up! I will have to look again! It seems like a lot of extra work to make sure your clients are covered when you could just as well do it yourself and not pay a referral - not being too cheap, but money is hard to come by these days!!

Dawn - I do not work on Sundays, period. It wasn't hard to make the decision since it is easy to get everything done that I need to do the other six days of the week. Although this book might not be for everyone, I recommend reading "The 4-Hour Work Week" by Timothy Ferriss. I work a few more ours than four in a week (actually a lot more) but for the sake of streamlining and efficiency I have found ways to get it all done in four to five and a half days - some weeks are better than others. It all depends on how open you are to a paradigm shift in the name of improving your quality of life outside of work. Good luck. Md

Is tit Sunday yet - LOL. We keep talking about taking Sundays off but it doesn't happen. Occasionally we get to take part of Sunday off, but like today Brian will be showing 2 sets of buyers, showing a rental property and getting a lease signed etc. etc.... And the reason why we need to show tomorrow is because the buyers can only look weekends or some weeknights and we are swamped and today was booked full too. It's all good. ~Rita

Marvin, I really appreciate your comment! I will check this out and I may be asking you more questions in the future!

Rita, I hear you! But I want to be more deliberate with my time. I wonder, does Lenn Harley work on Sunday????

Dawn,

I used to do Opens every Sunday. Now  barely ever work on Sundays. It's so nice to have a set, planned day off.

I am starting to take Saturdays off. I really feel that I am getting burned out and need to have one day a week to spend with fam, friends and me. All work and no play is making me into Oscar the Grouch...

I do an occasional open house on Sunday and sometimes I have shown some property --- however, I have always been able to schedule it around my church times.  Good Luck!

I had been doing open houses almost every Sunday until the last 3 weeks. Now I only do them occasionally.  Even though I enjoy hosting them, the time with my family after church is much more important to me.

Sunday is a very busy, busy day for open houses & showing homes to buyers. Updesk at our office has more walk ins on Sundays than any other day of the week. Some of the reasons are.. the kids do not have sports games,  the adults who work Sat are off Sun. I have arranged my hours around attending church service at night. So I stop working at 4:30p. I am also adding on my voice mail that I would only be available by email after my working hours.

I do NOT allow meetings on Sundays when I am at church... I always leave my cellphone on voicemail...

I WILL do Open Houses after I am done with church for the day.....

Some meetings are MORE important than others....

Hi Vanna, I see that it can be done. I will have to experiment!

Hi Michael, well we can't have your name changed to Oscar - Michael Thornton has such a nice ring to it.

Thanks Norma! If I do this, I would like to take the day OFF, so we shall see.

Irene, It is a priority with me to have time with the family, but my family is so busy with church on Sunday, that I may not see them, even if I don't work. :)

Windy, that might be a solution...thinking there may be a few different approaches here.

Alexander, I usually catch a lot of flack from Christians about opens on Sunday...some people have chosen not to hire me since I "work" on Sunday. However, we "worked" on Sunday when we were full-time in the ministry, but that was okay because it was ministry in their minds. It was very hard though, especially with small kids. Thanks for the input.
