Why Do We Use Metaphors?

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with Broadpoint Properties Cal BRE #01324959

Not to bring you back to the deays of high school English, but . . .

We use metaphors all of the time to describe people that we come across in our everyday lives -- particularly in business.

Sometimes . . . we refer to salespeople as sharks. Do they have sharp teeth? Will they kill you? No . . . but maybe they will "eat you alive" in the business sense.

We also refer to others as skunks. This is probably because something that they do "smells bad" or doesn't feel just right.

What metaphors do you use? Can you think of any that describe people is a positive way?

I suppose metaphors are easy to identify with without using too much brain power!

Plus, it paints a visual, and alot of people are very visual.

A good metaphor that describes someone is a "ray of sunshine."

Hi Melissa, I stopped by yesterday, and could not think of one ( I think I'm brain dead, maybe dumber than a door knob, certainly not the sharpest tack in the box) HAHAHAHA!! Can't think of one nice thing..... yet
