I have a friend who grows the best tomatoes I have ever had. Served with fresh mozzarella, basil and drizzled with olive oil, those tomatoes are quite a treat. I once even  sliced them green, sprinkled them with salt and ate them just like that!...

Last year influenced by my friend's success with her beautiful garden,  I tried to grow my own tomatoes. They were, well... nothing to brag about. I waited too long to pick them...

I was too busy working and with friends  that came to visit for two weeks.  ...So maybe we enjoyed one, of those less than stellar tomatoes.

I had practically given up on my ability to grow vegetables, fruits, tomatoes, when I ran into Donna Harris' Blog. Her enthusiasm for the Topsy Turvey method  for growing tomatoes was too much, and inspired me to try it again this year.

I went around looking for the Topsy Turvey kit, but couldn't find it anywhere.

Just when I was ready to give up, I went to HomeDepot, they didn't have it either, but instead they were selling these cute little tomato plants.

I bought one. Now this little plant is my baby. I have been giving it love and Miracle-Gro and hope that soon I, too, will be able to enjoy my own homegrown tomatoes!

Now for the irony, today I was again at HomeDepot looking for some more gardening materials, when to my dismay, there it was the Topsy Turvey! ...Donna!

Ralph Snodsmith has a radio show on WOR710 on the AM dial every Sunday morning at 8 to 10 AM Eastern.  He's the best.  Tune in and by the end of July, you'll have the best tomatoes on your block.  But be careful, this will be habit forming.  One year, I planted 24 plants and yielded over 600 tomatoes.

Very nice photos BTW.

Lourdes, Last year was my first year to successfully grown tomatoes.  We way enjoyed mozzarella cheese with olive oil and basil.  I even grew winter tomatoes this year as I enjoyed them so much.  I didn't get many but the few we grew was well worth having to cover them a few times from the weather.  We have had several this year and again we are totally enjoying them.  I wish you luck with that beautiful tomato.

Lourdes...

I used to keep a huge garden, about a half acre. Now I'm down to a few essentials. mostly peppers and herbs.

I wish that I would have went back to the big garden this year, because food prices have gone CRAZY!

That's funny, and so often, the way it goes! There really is something about a beautiful, homegrown tomato...it's own, little, perfect world...You will have a wonderful tomato story! Thanks for sharing this.

My neighbor has one of the topsty turvy ones and swears by them.  She said they produce so much faster.  I almost got one at the store the other day but didn't because I don't have anywhere to hang them.  And then I see my neighbor just hangs her topsy turvy one on the fence!  DUH!

Lourdes,

I love everything about tomatoes except eating plain or like an apple, not sure why.....I eat them just about in everything else.

I love tomatoes too....and I just bought my first tomato plant a couple of weeks ago to give it a try.....nothing yet.  I notice it dries out really quickly, so I have to check it every day.  I hope it blooms like yours.

Lourdes - I've just read this post, and am now spanking myself.  I went to the store this morning to get Basil to go with my sliced tomatoes.  BUT, I forgot the mozarella cheese!  Your pictures are making me hungry:-)
