Ever stop to think who are the biggest critics of real estate agents?..its clear... Other real estate agents

Ever wonder why the public sees us in the light in which they do?

Real Estate Agents being critical of other real estate agents!  Please spare me..its the nature of the business because in many professions its just not true.

I once found info about a well love well respected broker..that would blow you away..it wasn't from a customer..who we as agents serve..but a fellow broker, perhaps envious of the business they do.  I found it pathetic and very very wrong!

Sometimes our business is difficult enough..let the consumer decide and they will.

Have you ever shared with a peer that you are closing a transaction with someone and their response good luck, they're a jerk...watch out for them????  It happens on line...face to face...everyday...

I just wonder does this happen with Laywers, Accountants and other Business Professionals?

So the next time you read something about someone..consider the source and there is a good chance when a real estate agent is being thrown under the bus..more than likely its another real estate agent do the driving!

You are right...I think tire tracks are much more common in real estate than in other professions...though I think that pendulum can swing toooo far the other way as well. If a dentist pulled the wrong tooth, Doctor performed unnecessary or incorrect surgery...it's wrong and finding a professional to collaborate that shouldn't be brain surgery...but it is !  Blog on lady....send us some sunshine...

Hi Midori,   just heard recently someone ( outside our local board ) on the board of Realtors talking in front of a small group, some agents were just eavesdropping ask if "anyone work with this agent, she is a -   you know what....and continue on with such flattering conversation for all who wants to hear, about this agent.   First of all it is UNACCEPTABLE---especially for a Realtor....obviously the Code of Ethics that we ah ere to a Realtors isn't taken seriously.  We can all relate to the agent that walks that proverbial gray line, comes across to other agents as " Agent Nasty "  the one no one wants to work with. Those thoughts should be kept to yourself because sharing them and spreading the word will do nothing more than create an even more negative image that the public already has for Realtors.  Why thow fuel on the fire. Good thought provoking post.

Midori, I recently had an issue, I went into executive session at my Board of Directors meeting. That means nothing said leaves the room. I never mentioned names but got some good advice on how to handle it.

It is too easy to become a REALTOR.  In my eyes,  there are plenty of people who don't have the proper knowledge or skills to adequately represent their clients.  This isn't always a bad thing if the agent has the sense and care to seek help from other professionals when a situation calls for it.

Instead we have agent's who frequently are not held to a professional standard and in the worst cases don't care.

I appreciate "feedback" from other agents on their bad experiences with other agent's.  It might help me down the road when I cross paths with them..

I don't get it.  We should be honest, truthful and transparent in all things except when it comes to talking about other agents.  Not that I talk badly about agents but I really wouldn't think twice about it if there was an agent that did me wrong.  I consider it a public service announcement.  When every agent is good and pure and above average that's when the public begins to become a little cynical and then discounts everything that is said.

Midori - I agree. I have had some agents who were a "challenge."  I have had opportunities to remark at times but I don't.  I think it demeans the one making the remark and serves no purpose.

Sally-I'm not talking about errors I am talking about just bashing another person based on what they heard or a different style of selling...or attitude etc..etc..it seems to me..for what I read and what I hear..its never anything of specific just good old fashioned bashing!

June-many fail to realize they are to uphold the REALTOR Code of Ethics..trust me I could report many!

Missy-don't feel bad..I looked at my technorati key word search...and someone actually looked up I hate Midori Miller...I had to laugh..I guess I made it to the big time...and when someone trashes another I tend to look at it that way...but it sucks..for those that work hard and maintain a good reputation. Good for you..I think you are the best.. and you can quote me on that.

Curtis Real Estate Company-many times feedback = Code of Ethics Violations..to me its just more gossip and a difference in the way people are..meaning perception..meaning perspective..and many time we do not get the whole story...just the so called victim..who trashes someones good name.

Tim-Again I'm a REALTOR so you won't hear it from me...I also understand that humans are very human...with the way they feel..with the way they think and the way they act...I think too much transparency causes panic and many many false allegations...we should be transparent in what we are doing and not what we think of others...because sometimes you only hear one side of the story..and many times they are tall tales...filled with envy...disrespect and ugly drama which is not necessary.

A true professional worries about their own business and attempted to keep transactions together..I have worked with a few...that have a very different style from myself...opinions are like $@$%#^$^%#^#@^ and everyone has them...sometimes those opinions can very well cause someone else a lot of grief..unnecessary unwarranted grief.

We all face challenges in life and some times more than others. Can't we all get a long in real estate?

I think it happens in all professions, and the more successful you are the more susceptible you are to attack. You can not believe everything, you hear or read, and considering the source is always wise.

What is troubling is when an attack is posted on a public forum. There usually is no winner, as there are always two sides to every story.

I am pretty sure that it happens in other professions too..we are just wrapped up in our own realm.

If you are a conscientiousperson and a working professional there should be no issues with your performance, regardless of what you do. There will always be bashers, and it is usually from someone that is trying to take shortcuts and gets caught. Then to do damage control they will start the bashing to deflect from their own poor performance. Unfortunately, with the anonymity of the Internet, there can usually be no recourse for an attack on one's credibility or ethics.

I don't believe it happens as frequently in other professions as so many think..I actually went to a lawyer and mentioned another lawyers name..no reaction simply do what you have to do!

My point is..we always seem to point out others flaws at their expense to benefit ourselves...why?  We are a profession and if you do what you do best..and master your skills..there will no reason to worry what others are doing...and maybe the thought process of someone is taking away from me...me..me....me...won't even be a second thought.

Midori - Many people pull others down rather than boost themselves up.  One time I called another agent about her listing that I wanted to buy personally.  I had never met her before, but, of course, we chat like we're old friends when we call - typical agent to agent call.  Then she tells me that she hates me.  I was aghast - I didn't even know here and we are very, very clean in our dealings.  Turns out she didn't like that we did so much business.  I told her what a nice guy I was.  We didn't buy her listing.  I don't think she is in the business any more.

Midori - I have found that this is no different than in other industries, maybe it does happen a little bit more here. Just look at how many here say stay away from newer agents (new being a variable definition depending upon the situation) or part timers. And this is considered ok. But then it graduates to innuendos or just plain bad-mouthing of other agents (isn't there something in the C.O.E. about this? But, hey, there is also something that covers not showing homes with less than x for coop I believe). It is often easier, and more inviting, to try to sell your product on the real or alledged deficiencies of your competition rather than on the benefits and advantages of your own product.

Midori --- I hate that I have to agree with you on this.  I wish that our fellow Realtors were not like this. I, like you, wonder if other professions are as bad as ours..

Midori,

"...consider the source and there is a good chance when a real estate agent is being thrown under the bus..more than likely its another real estate agent do the driving!"- so true and sad.

It also paves the way for others, consumers and other business professionals, to feel this is norm and hold a contempt and disrespect for real estate agents.

Midori, I know what you say is true. But I also have to add that there are writers here on AR whose blogs are mostly about how rotten other realtors are. It's become such a turn off for me that I have stopped reading this person's blog. I know we all have a story to tell about another agent and we write about it because it seems unbelievable, but it is also something that's happened to us personally, as opposed to using one' blog to criticize agents in general.

Midori, yeah, there are a few turkeys out there.  But most of the agent here - the ones who are surviving all the craziness - are smart and really good at what they do.  I think we should do more to celebrate each other.

The best advise  I ever had about this came from my mother when I was very small.  I would like to say that I always do what she said, But probably not all the time.

Anyway here it is.

If you don't have something nice to say, then don't open your mouth. And she really did say it that way.

It works every time.
