If you are looking for a great place to adopt your next fur baby, please consider HAWS (Humane Animal Welfare Society) in Waukesha WI.  They have a wonderful site, so take a look and bring home your new best friend.

I have been volunteering there for over 3 years, and have gotten all 4 of my pets there.  Currently, the shelter is breaking ground on a well needed expansion project for the animals.  It is exciting!

I am also proud to have become a BEST FRIEND IN BUSINESS for the shelter!  Please look for information on Kristin Johnston, Waukesha Realtor, in the HAWS lobby, on their website, in newsletters, flyers, etc.  Together, we can make a difference!

PLEASE ASK ME ABOUT MY GIVE BACK PROGRAM, WHERE I MAKE A CONTRIBUTION TO AN ANIMAL SHELTER IN YOUR NAME UPON CLOSING!!!

Kristin I don't get up to the Milwaukee area much any more, but I do have some relatives in the area. I will pass the word along. Thanks.

Awesome Kristin.  Our shelter is a dump compared to many.  We just had a major distemper outbreak there, which the staff blamed on raccoons!  During investigation they found a myriad of problems with staff and facilities, and are undergoing some radical changes, and moving toward no-kill.  Hopefully it will all work out better for the animals, but at this point I can't say I'm proud of the job they've done.

Terry, that is awful!  I have a cat, Paris, who the vet thought had cancer 99 percent sure she would have to be put down....did exploratory surgery, took out all her organs, did multiple biopsys, etc.  tests came back as distemper!  Thankfully we caught it and she is still alive and healthy today....she is on special food, soft ID,and medication, but we have her!!!

My friend those animals have a voice in you. Why not do a post with pictures about supporting your local Humane Animal Welfare society? Run a special with Lynn with local businesses that support HAWS now.

Kristin, thats interesting.  I'm wondering now if there is going to be a nationwide distemper problem?

Kristin.. I would love to adopt another dog.. just not quiet ready yet (emotionally) since Rusty past away.  One question though.. do they deliver?  Living in CT, is just a little to far to go.

Valerie, I know it is tough losing a pet/family member and everyone adjusts differently afterward.  When I had to put my first cat down due to lung cancer, I went on a trip, and the day after I returned home, the home was so empty I went to the shelter and adopted 2 more :-)  And, yes, actually, they do occassionally get people to transport loved ones to different states, especially certain breed rescues.....
