Our students in Santa Rosa County School District ranked #1 in the state in reading scores. Santa Rosa County Schools are committed to excellence as is evidenced in their high rankings among all school districts in Florida. In all measures of achievement in every subject area and at every grade level, Santa Rosa's students are usually the best in the state. The majority of their schools (19) have earned the coveted grade of A on Florida's A+ Plan, and the district has only two schools that rank below B. On measures of student preparation for college work, Santa Rosa's graduating seniors ranked first in the state in 2001, and students at the seven high schools earned more than $13,975,605 in scholarships last year. As and example, one school, Gulf Breeze High School is top in the state when it comes to graduation rate and college preparation. Ninety percent of graduating seniors attend college with almost 80% going directly to four-year institutions. Scholarships in 2006 at this school exceeded $4 million dollars.
Perhaps one of the most unique school campuses in the county would be West Navarre Intermediate. This school's 47-acre campus is unique in its geography offering students opportunity to develop environmental awareness. Besides studies botanical studies and a bluebird house trail, students can participate in an experimental ornamental grass testing program, a wetlands monitoring program, through the University of Florida.
