So I was having a conversation with a co-worker today about a transaction and some how we got onto the topic of "Social Media"

"Dez, all this social media stuff has me overwhelmed and I really don't get it."

So I started talking about facebook and twitter and giving her some pointers. You know the typical blah blah blah.

"Hey I laughed really hard this morning when I read your status... actually your status always makes me laugh

... and the light bulb went on.

This was this morning's post she was referring too.

Social media to me is about engaging others ... its networking... its reconnecting...  its keeping your face in front of the people you know.

My status very rarely has anything "directly" to do with Real Estate, but I keep it fun and interesting enough that alot of my past clients and friends comment.

We reconnect....   open up conversation, dialog that could lead to hey ... who knows........   real estate.

Just on this one "Status" I had two past clients chime in and I ended up chatting with them both just shooting the BS today....    They know what I do, and by me engaging them in conversation I am in the forefront of their brain.   They won't say "Oh crap I forgot about Dez, she sells real estate"  That I am sure won't happen.     I am sure that if they have a friend or family member looking to buy our sell they'll say "Oh I was just talking to my old agent the other day... you should give her a call'

And so it begins..............................   Now do you kinda get it????  Sorta???

I get it... but there are days that I wish I didn't.  Does that make me fickle?

Desiree, what a great esplanation of the social media phenomenon! We do engage our sphere of influence and keep our name in front of them! It is a good thing!!

Desiree - The greatest part of social media is that you don't have to get it. If it helps you market your self or brands you than it is well worth the time. Heck it is alot more fun than mailing postcards !

"Heck it is alot more fun than mailing postcards !"

Ain't that the truth. And in my experience it costs less and has a better ROI...

I get it, but I never get the Realtors who use it as though they were still in high school. Stay away from Real Estate talk - yes, but also stay away from gossip, off-colour humour, inflamatory statements, etc. and so on and so forthe. Either that or set up a "Professional Profile" and then a private one that only your closest friends have access to!
