What a perfect evening we had to participate in the Relay For Life event at the Jewish Community Center in Austin, Texas! It had been a warm day but there was a great breeze and as the night wore on a full moon!
Our "Mad Hatter" group from Coldwell Banker United Realtors of 20 wore an assortment of hats,
walked the laps, ate fruit kabobs, pizza and revelled in raising money for a cause dear to our hearts.
I won the best hat for our group (which I got in Belgium at a beer drinking festival)!
We lost a wonderful agent, mother of two teenagers and friend 2 years ago to lung cancer. Our President has endured 4 episodes with cancer and survived! Our assistant, Carol, is a breast cancer survivor. Many agents have a family member or friend who has gone to the mat with this evil disease, some surviving and some not. There were luminaries in memory of our friend, Liz Hogue, in the circle of lights they made in the center of the field. A small dedication service was held in memory of those who lost the battle.
In walking around the track (in the center of Austin) look at the deer we passed (they don't stop eating for anyone)!
The Mad Hatters raised $3,000 and are still collecting! We already have some great ideas in the mill for next years "Relay For Life".
As our President, Helen Edwards said, "Once you have relayed you will never be the same. From dusk until dawn cancer patients and caregivers push through until sunrise". She was right!
You won't be the same and will be committed to stamping out this horrible disease.
